A mirror

A piece of glass

Breakable

Weak

It's just simply glass

However,

This feeble material that throws our image back at us has power.

Power to destroy us.

Power to enlighten us.

But this object didn't get this power by itself.

It's lifeless. Useless.

We give it power.

Power it can't properly use.

Power that we gifted it and it USES it to DESTROY the giver.

Then this power gives us either extreme pride and confidence or extreme sadness and self-hatred.

One that receives immense confidence may go out and torture another, only for them to go home and wallow in misery and woe at what they see reflected back at them.

Have you ever wondered who the true enemy in Snow White was? The Mirror. The Mirror was only magical because of the power The Queen gave it.

Everyday The Queen returned to the mirror to ask if she was pretty, but everyday it told her that she was getting older and her beauty was fading. With the thought of age came the idea the young stealing her glory. She grew insecure and angry, and went after Snow White's life.

One would think to learn from the Queen's mistake, but no one did. They return to the mirror everyday and ask if they're pretty.

However, when you think about it, the mirror is only there when you're self-piteous or confident. You're not in front of the mirror when you're reading about your favorite character falling in love or when you're concentrating or when your favorite song comes on. You don't know of the beauty you have in everyday life. That's what sucks the power out of a mirror. The true beauty that you don't see.

So stop giving the mirror power. Don't let the image you see be the image you always think you are. The mirror's power is the power you give it, so why are you putting yourself through misery?
