Differences for One True Love

Chapter One

Rikayo's POV

Just a normal day at Tashida Laboratory.

"Osharu, take the temperature of subject 5768. We need to run some tests on it." I said writing some notes on my clipboard.

"Yes sir" Osharu left the room to look for the thermometer and Minuski entered.

"Dr. Rikayo." She spoke

"Dr. Minuski, how can I help you?"

"Professor Kiro, needs to see you. It's urgent" she said as I looked at her and saw that she had a worried look

"Did she tell you the situation?"

"No sir"

"Alright. Stay here with subject 5768. Run the test I listed on the board and write down the results. I shouldn't take long." I handed Minuski the clipboard and headed towards Professor Kiro's office.

Upon reaching the door, I knocked on it and waited until I heard a 'come in'.

"Professor Kiro. You wanted to speak to me?"

"Yes. Have a seat. We don't have enough time."

"Ma'am what is the urgent matter?" I said sitting across from her

"Shinigami's have been spotted near our area. They're already too close for us to evacuate." She said pacing in her office back and forth.

"What are we going to do, Professor?" I asked her but she seemed to ignore my question

"What results do we have about subject 5768?" She asked and a scientist passed her a profile

"You won't believe it, Professor. She's the one. She's the only one who matches with all of our predictions." Said the scientist with all the joy he had.

"Thank you, Doctor. Please excuse us."

"Of course. Professor. Rikayo." He said and left the room

"Now we have a bigger problem, Rikayo."

"I am aware. How are we going to maintain her safe?"

"Rikayo. The task I am going to assign you, is going to last until you perish. Are you willing to make that sacrifice?"

"Yes Ma'am."

"Good. Your task is to maintain that child alive. Feed her, raise her, educate her. Make her feel human. She can never know what she is."

"Yes Ma'am. I will do everything in my power to keep her alive." I said bowing

Suddenly the building started shaking. Professor Kiro, went to check the cameras and saw a whole army of Shinigami's that already broke the first defensive barrier. Professor Kiro, went to her drawer and pulled out a file while adding more documents in it.

Reaching the last document, she handed the file to me, "Take this"

I opened the file and looked at the documents she put. Most of them were things I've never seen before.

Confused at what these were, I asked her, "Professor, what are these documents for?"

"Rikayo, there is no time for me to explain. There are notes that can help you figure out what they are but right now-"

Cut off from finishing her sentence, Osharu bursts through the door

"Professor Kiro! They're starting to break the last defensive barrier! We have to do something!"
