Chapter 2

8 years old

"Hreed ! Slow down , where are we going ?" , I huffed out breathlessly.
Hreed had come to my house at 7 o'clock in the morning and had woken me up from my beauty sleep . Mom says a princess needs her beauty sleep. He said he wanted to show me something. He didn't exactly tell me what , said it was a surprise.

After our first meeting in my backyard Hreed and I had gotten along pretty well and now we were best friends . His nanny Stacy said we were soulmates . I didn't know what it meant but the way Hreed smiled at her and said yes it must be something good . Hreed was the adventurous one out of the two of us . Always finding new places , taking dips in lakes , etc .
I on the other hand was the logical one . Always taking care of him .

Hreed slowed down and turned his head to look back at me . "Speed up you slow pork , we are almost there. "
I was a little hesitant to go deeper into the woods but followed him nonetheless . We walked silently through the woods for few more minutes when Hreed suddenly stopped. I looked up from my feet to see an enticing site in front of me. We had reached a cliff and there lair the most beautiful sight I ever saw. The sky was covered in orange and red hues . The sun was peaking from in between the peaks of greenery filled hills. We sat there peacefully without exchanging any words , too engrossed in view in front of us to talk . The only sound was of the wildlife around us.

After sometime we started making our way back . I stole a sideway glimpse of Hreed . His eyebrows were scrunched and his lips set into a frown . He seemed to be in deep thought. " What are you thinking about?" I asked trying to break the silence. He tilted his head towards me and said , "Nothing ... just thinking how the days are much better than the nights ." I didn't understand what he said but didn't ponder upon it too much , afterall then I was just 8 year old girl who didn't understand the hidden meanings .

By the time we reached home we were panting and huffing . Hreed thought that it was a good idea to race all the way home . "Hah! I won ! You lost Anna , again." Ugh !! He always won , Hreed afterall was the fastest boy in our class and he knew it . He was always so boastful about it . "That's not fair !! You are too fast , you even pushed me along the way !!" , I cried. Hreed didn't pay heed to my words and continued teasing me for the rest of the day . I was so fed up by the evening that I started to cry . I know that I was being a sissy but I couldn't help it . Hreed got off his chair and came running towards me . His eyes wide like saucers as panic took over him . He never liked it when I cried . He tried to hug me but I pushed him away . "I am sorry , I won't do it again " , "Please don't cry A , I didn't mean to make you cry." I wasn't having any of it .

Suddenly momma came upstairs with a plate of chocolate chip cookies and two glasses of milk . On seeing me bawl ny eyes out her face scrunched up in concern , " What happened sweetie ?" "It was my fault April , I shouldn't have teased her so much ." Hreed whispered. "And why would you tease her Hreed ?" Momma asked , Hreed hesitated at first but then said , " She lost in the race against me " , mom laughed and said , " Oh Anna , we always lose and win but we cannot afford to be hung up on those . We have to move on for a new race evryday ." "You guys sought it out , I will be downstairs in the kitchen. " She kissed each of us on the forehead , wiped my tears and went out. After a few moments of silence Hreed spoke up again , his voice wavered and cracked , " Please take all of my cookies but don't be mad at me ,  I don't like it , it makes me wanna cry" , he nudged the plate with the untouched cookies over me . I looked towards him and saw unshed tears in his eyes . I had never seen Hreed cry and I didn't like it . I shifted my body a little and hugged him , he hugged me back immediately. 

He mumbled " I am sorry , I love you ."
