CARTER POV .

"CARMEN GETCHO BLACK ASS DOWN THESE DAMN STAIRS AND CLEAN THIS KITCHEN !!" My adoptive mother Sara screams at me from her bedroom downstairs . My real mother passed away during my birth so I never even met her . I don't even know anything about her except her name which was Alyssa . I've been in 6 foster homes throughout my lifetime, each one worse the the last . My social worker is racist so she just loves to put me in terrible homes . In just 8 more months I'm leaving . I would have gotten the thing where I apply to leave at 16 but Sara told me if I did she would plant things around my room and call the police and I believe her because that's what happened to the other girl that lived here with us.
I walk down the carpeted stairs looking down at the mess that Sara and her druggie friends left me in the kitchen . There was broken beer bottles , cigarette buds , left over joints and needles . I slowly snuck a blunt into my sweatshirt pocket and got to cleaning . I made sure to clean till my fingers were prunes and I could see myself in the marble floors. I pull my phone out to see what the time is and realize it's 1:00 AM . I walk back upstairs into the bathroom connected with my room and wash my face and do my nightly routine . After finishing up with that I drag myself into bed and let sleep take over my body .
