Chapter One

Jupiter's POV

"Hey, Jupe," I wince at the name and glare at Matthew as he smiles at me and runs a hand through my hair. "Jupiter," I grumble angrily.

He offers me some of his watermelon Sour Patch Kids and gratefully accept them, popping some into my mouth.

"You going to Magcon this summer?" I ask half heartedly, the notebook of my next class in my hand. I had a test fourth period.

Matthew nods and I sigh, "Great. Another summer full of nothing." He laughs and I dare to look up at his face, his brown eyes shimmering.

"You could come you know?" he offers and just then the bell rings. I kiss his cheek before I go and shake my head no. "Nah, I'm good," I reply.

Matthew smiles and kisses my forehead, "See you at lunch, babe." I smile back and we part ways.

Now please don't get confused, we are just friends.

We are best friends actually.

Matt and I have been best friends since we could walk and we have never lost our friendship over something silly. We are both seniors and we do everything together, eating, sleeping, we poop at each other's houses.

It's serious.

He's more popular than I am though due to the fact that he's a Viner and I'm, well, not.

I arrive at my fourth period class and smile as I catch sight of my other best friend, Shawn. He waves me over and I sit next to him at the two person table in the back.

"Hey, Shawn," I greet with a smile.

His eyes brighten up and he grins, "Hey, Jupe."

Immediately I frown, "Jupiter." He raises his arms up as if to surrender and I shake my head, a smile tugging on my lips.

"Are you going to Magcon this summer?" I ask with a slight worry in my tone.

He pouts, "Yeah, sorry."

Sighing I shrug, "Don't be."

The teacher walks in just as Shawn begins to say something. "Hello class," Mr. Woods begins.

I sigh and pay attention as he tells us what's the format of the test. All I can think about is how boring my summers going to be.

************************************************

"I find it funny that you think the central dogma of molecular biology is the copying of DNA. Matthew this is freshman bullshit," I frown.

He groans, "Obviously it is-"

"IT IS THE TRANSCRIPTION OF DNA TO RNA AND THE TRANSLATION OF RNA TO A PROTEIN!" I tell him, the aggravation clear in my voice.

Matthew ponders this idea for a second before the realization falls upon him. "Oh yeah," he murmurs softly.

I laugh and shake my head.

Shawn plops down onto the table and they do a weird handshake. "What's up?" I ask taking a bite of my pizza. Shawn seems to slump down and I frown, "That bad?" he nods.

I lean my head on his shoulder and wrap his fingers in mine, hoping he feels better.

Matthew glares softly at us and excuses himself before leaving me with a look of confusion. Shawn relaxes and I press a hand up against his cheek, pulling him in for a kiss on his other cheek.

He blushes as he looks at me and I smile before leaving as well. "I'll see you later," I promise.

When I throw my lunch out, I see Matthew hanging around the popular kid area, smiling and laughing. I sigh and walk out of the cafeteria with a book in my hand and no one by my side.

***********************************************

After sixth period I go to my locker and get all my things together. People are all around me, chattering and gossiping. "Hey Matthew!"

I turn to see Matthew walking over to a jock, a jock who was known for causing trouble. "What's up?" he greets.

The jock doesn't bother greeting him back and gets straight to the point, "So what is your honest opinion on Jupiter?"

Matthew looks straight at me and I see him smile at me a little. "She's amazing," he responds easily. "Honestly, she's just an extraordinary person," he nods.

The jock snorts and looks around, "She's a nerd dude."

Matthew furrows his eyebrows and crosses his arms, "Yeah? It's a bad thing that's she's actually passing all her classes?"

The jock rolls his eyes but his cheeks turn red. "Whatever. Let's go guys," the jock grunts.

I smile at Matthew and he winks at me before walking over. His arms wrap around my waist as I shut my locker and I laugh as he almost kills both of us on the way down the stairs.

We looked like the Penguins.

Eventually we get down all the flights of stairs and I'm pressed up against a wall by him as we hug. His arms are around my shoulders, his hands in my hair; my arms are around his torso.

Matthew's heart comforts me and I smile, sinking in his whole being. "Hey, I love you okay? You're mine. I'm always going to be there," he mumbles.

I nod and look up at him, his eyes already locked in with mine. "I love you too, Matthew," I murmur softly.

He smiles and I find our faces as close as can be without actually touching. "I'll see you tomorrow, okay?" he whispers before kissing my neck, then my cheek, lingering for several moments.

"Okay," I whisper back as he kisses my forehead than leaves, hesitantly. I watch his back as he retreats and I soon push off the wall and walk away as well.

Just as I'm about to walk off, Shawn rages towards me. His face was pissed off, and he looked hurt.

"So what's up with that?" he questions angrily.

I furrow my eyebrows and cross my arms, not quite understanding what he meant to say with that. "What's up with what?" I question back.

Shawn shakes his head, "One minute you're all over me, hugging me, kissing my che-" I cut him off.

"Because that's a friendly fûcking thing to do. I'm your best friend, I did that to comfort you. I'm not gonna insinuate that I like you, I would say it straight to your face." I argue.

He looks away as I mutter, "I don't even like you in that way."

Ugh.
