Chapter 2; The Stranger
"Leave me alone! I don't know where she is! What are you talking about?!? Leave me alone!" I yell, but the feds behind me take no notice and continue their chase.
This was the last goddamn thing I needed. I was supposed to be staying out of the spotlight, so I stupidly decide that going into a crowded coffee shop is a sure fire way to stay hidden, but then someone goes and recognises me, so I end up running. Again. I'm fed up with having to run. In all seriousness though, the amount of excercise I've done these past couple weeks has really made me realise how unfit I was. Not the best situation for a realisation like that, but whatever I guess.
I round a corner and come fact to face with a police car blocking the road with the doors open, with maybe 6 or 7 officers crouching behind them pointing their guns at me.
WAIT. Guns?? What the hell do they need a gun for when it's half a dozen burly men against an out-of-shape 20 year old?
"Put your hands in the air! You're under arrest!" I hear from behind me. I whirl around, and the feds I was initially running from have clearly caught up, and are pointing two more guns at me. Fucking hell, overkill much? Bringing myself back to the moment, I begin looking around for possible escapes because at this stage, I know I'll be off to jail even though I had nothing to do with...
A shadow to my left pulls my attention away from the nightmare dancing around inside my mind, but just as I turn to look at it, it's gone. Then it's to my right, then my left again, then it disappears for a few seconds. I whirl around wildly, the officers' shouts fading into the background. I sense them starting to push in towards me, clearly trying to finish quickly as a crowd starts to form, when suddenly a voice snakes into my mind, weaving its way through my ears and into my brain, where it repeats just one message;
"Behind you."
I whirl around, and briefly glimpse a familiar figure draped in a large, black hoodie stood at the entrance to a backalley, before they turn and run down it. I immediately give chase, trying to push my way through the ever-enlarging crowd to the other side of the street.
"Hey! Hey you! In the black! No, not you, him! Look, he's getting away! Seriously! Come on, just get out of my goddamn way! Ah, geez."
Goddamn crowds. He got away. And now I'm exposed. So, I kinda figured I have two main options. I could hide, or I could just run, and I figured the latter would be easier, seeing as the streets are now flooded with spectators, leaving me nowhere to disappear to.
I dive into the alleyway, and start sprinting down it. I can hear all these people shouting, and I can almost feel them pointing after me, directing my wannabe captors in my direction. I glance behind myself, but surprisingly no-one is pointing after me, and there isn't anyone chasing me down.
Weird. It's like they can't even see this area.
I guess I should explain the whole 'I'm wanted by the police' thing. Well, it all started two years ago, when my sister 'disappeared'...
🌟FLASHBACK🌟
"Jude, can we PLEASE go home now?"
My sister and I had been walking around the mall for around an hour or two, and by the looks of things, she was getting pretty fed up. We were in Rolanda's Rockin' Riches because I wanted to buy myself a new perfume for my wedding, which was in a few weeks' time. I still can't believe I'm marrying the man of my dreams, the love of my life, my other half, my- Okay. That may have been going a bit far, but I was just so happy.
By now though, Lily was getting really fed up, and had simply sat down by the entrance to the store,waiting for me. I started feeling a bit sorry for her, so I picked the DKNY perfume I wanted, paid for it, and left, with my sister a couple meters ahead of me.
