“Jace?” she asked, in disbelief. She could feel tears clouding her eyes. Jace’s head turned around, much the dismay of the blonde haired beauty next to him.
“Beth?” he asked, in the same tone. “What are you doing here?” he asked, fumbling to put on his boxers, giving the girl a stern look. She pouted, but patiently waited for him, not even bothering to cover herself up. Jace went out the room, closing the door behind him. Normally, Beth would have been blushing mad like a ripe tomato at his exposed skin, but she was too hurt and upset to care.
“Who is she?” Beth spat. Jace ran his hand through his hair and cursed. He shouldn’t have had sex with her that night. He loved her as a best friend and he didn’t want to lose her, but at the same time, he wanted her, but he didn’t want to give up his playboy ways.
“Just some girl.” he muttered. Beth felt the tears coming. He was making out with another girl, naked on a bed, and now just saying some girl?
Don’t cry… don’t cry. She told herself.
“Why? I thought we-“she bit back her words, glaring at him.
“What?” he prompted.
“It doesn’t matter anymore, Jace, but if you really want to know, I thought what we had was special! I thought you had changed!” she blurted, throwing her hands in the air.
Jace sighed, his hands on his head. “Look, I love you, Beth, but in a best friend way. I’m sorry I hurt you, but-“
Beth looked at him, hurt. “Really Jace? That was my first time.” she whispered. “And I couldn’t even have it with someone who cared.” she snarled, bolting away. Jace looked at her, baffled. He cursed at himself and went back into the bedroom, picking up his clothes and ditching the girl.
He felt like shit.
~~~
Beth ran into the nearest bathroom and cried. She looked at her reflection, and wanted to laugh. Her hair wasn’t shiny and pretty like any of the girl’s he hung out with, nor was her body as curved, but she seriously foolishly thought Jace loved her anyway. It was her fault too.
She stopped crying. She dried up her eyes so no one could tell that she was crying and exited, going back to the living room.
“Emma, I have to leave. My brother said something about getting ‘my ass there!’” she lied. “Sorry, I’ll give you back your car later.”
Emma glanced at her for a second, and then sighed.
“Fine. Just give it back later.” she said, going back to making out with Terrence.
Beth took the keys from her best friend and got in the car and drove home.
Away from Jace.
~~~
Emma sat on the couch, wishing Emma stayed. The boys were now watching football and she didn’t really watch football.
She got out her phone and started texting Luke, Beth’s brother.
Did my car get to your house safely?
A minute later, her phone vibrated.
What are you talking about? How should I know?
Emma looked at her phone, confused.
Beth said she needed to go home asap
There was a two minute gap when her phone buzzed again.
I’m out with Sandra and I didn’t tell her to go home.
Realization dawned on Emma. Beth was lying. She was about to call her when Jace appeared, a blond girl hot on his trails.
She looked at Jace, the girl, and then at Beth’s number.
“YOU!” she snarled. Jace looked at her, shocked.
“What did you do to Beth?” she spat, lunging for him, but Terrence stopped her.
“Wait, Beth? That girl-“he must have realized it, when Emma looked at him, shocked.
“Really, Terrence?” she said, yanking his arm from her waist. “You knew he was here with her?”
“I didn’t know they were a thing. I swe-“he said, holding his hands up, glaring at Jace for threatening their relationship. Emma ignored him.
She stomped right up to Jace. “Where Beth is and what did you do?” she asked, and then eyed at the blond.
“Who’s Beth?” the blond girl interrupted. Her eyes narrowed. “Was it that girl that barged in crying when we were having sex?”
Emma snapped her neck towards Jace so fast; he thought she was going to have a whiplash.
“You didn’t. After what you guys did.” her eye’s darkened. She slapped him, and grabbed her purse and stormed out the doorway.
~~~
Beth’s phone rang. She looked down, her eyes puffy, and saw that the caller I.D was Emma.
“Hello?” she said, trying to sound cheerful.
“Stop, Beth.” Emma commanded. “I know what happened.” her voice softened.
“What are you talking about?” Beth said her voice breaking.
“Beth! Why didn’t you tell me?” she asked, sounding hurt. “I could have beat that bastard up.”
Beth was silent for a moment, tears rolling down her cheeks.
“Where are you?” she asked after a while.
“Home.” Beth said in a small voice. Beth sighed, and then hung up.
A few minutes later, there was a pounding on the door. Beth got up and opened it. Emma stood there with Wal-Mart shopping bags in hand.
“Bethy, you look like a mess!” Emma said, hugging her. Beth hugged her back.
Emma handed her a tub of birthday cake batter ice cream and took a double fudge one for herself.
“Emma.” Beth said, her eyes watering. “Thanks.”
Emma smiled and held up a Mean Girls dvd. Beth laughed as she set up the movie in the living room while she got spoons.
That’s how they spent that afternoon.
I’m ending it here because I need a small timeskip in the next chapter. Please vote! It would mean a lot! Thank you.
