Gumi POV
Sighing, I speed up to keep in formation. Mikuo had just finished telling us that we were behind schedule.
I roll my eyes and glance at the bright blue sky. We are going to win today, I tell myself, a smirk sneaking its way on to my lips.
"Band-Aid, stopping going off to the side. It's distracting." Yukari complains.
Oliver sighs. He has always hated the code name we gave him. However, he obliged and straightened out.
"How do you think Group 4's handling things?" Mikuo asks suddenly, worry lacing his words.
"They're fine, you dimwit! They shouldn't even be close to the wall yet!" Mayu responds heatedly. It was no kept secret that she had a huge crush on him.
Although, no one understood it. Mikuo had been in love with IA since she set foot in the base. And everyone except IA herself, knew it. Mayu said she was starting to like Kaito, but I wasn't so sure.
"I can't help it, Mayu. Oh, what about Group 5? God, I hope the enemy didn't stray too far from the wall. They'd almost be right on top of them." Mikuo takes a deep breath.
"I'm sure they're okay." Yuma assures kindly. Mikuo becomes illogical when he's worried.
"I hope you're right." The teal haired boy mutters.
"Boy, you know he is. Stop worrying your ass off, and be the leader we need! Even if they aren't okay, we still need a leader. We still need to survive!" I blow up into the headset. "Get your head on straight, and get in the game! Otherwise, we will die!"
IA POV
"Aria, your controls working fine? You're swerving a bit." Piko's voice comes over the headset.
I roll my eyes. "Nothing like I'm used to, so I guess." I pause. "I'd much rather be flying my baby. Wil said it would take about a month for my plane to be remade the way I like it."
"Aw, but you're so lucky! You get the newest model!" Len whines.
"You forget that this is a prototype and it's still not working like he designed it to." My eyes dart to the ground, thousands of feet below us.
While everyone else was flying their custom made Voca 53s, I was flying a dark gray Voca 54. Wil still had to work out the kinks in this plane to start producing them for the other Vocaloids. And there was a lot of kinks.
For instance, the steering was slightly off. Plus, the steering wheel was a different design than in the 53s, making it difficult for me to fly, having been trained to use the 53. The controls were different colors and there were more of them. Wil told me NOT to touch the light green button to my left. He said that he hadn't quite finished what it was supposed to do. So, I didn't plan on touching that button.
"Gackpoid, fly ahead and see if any of the enemy have made it this far." Piko orders. "Group 5 should be nearing the wall. Meet with them, and come back."
I glance at the map to my right and conclude that the wall was about 25 miles away.
"Roger." Gakupo tailed the group in our most common formation, so I took a glance out the window to see his plane drop and speed up.
We flew in silence, the weight of our mission finally setting in.
In the silence, I noticed a static sound begin to crescendo. I tap my headset worriedly, wondering if my connection was messing up.
"Hey, guys? You hear the-" Screams interrupt Rin.
"What the..!" Len exclaims.
"Gackpoid! Gackpoid, are you alright?" Piko yells. More screams.
"HELP! PLEASE! ANYONE! IT'S NOTHING LIKE YOU COULD EVE-" A voice came through, followed by a shrill scream and the sound of rushing wind. It cut off abruptly. "MIKU!" A different voice cries. I'm able to identify it as Meiko's. The first voice had to be Miku's.
No. Miku was in the group that departed first. We were second. What waited for us at the wall? Well, I'm going to find out sooner rather than later, I think grimly.
My heart fell. I had never liked Miku, but she was still a Vocaloid. I didn't really want anything bad to happen to her. On top of that, she was the sister of my favorite man on Earth. What was going on?
"Hello? Is this the Princess' group?" Piko says in a serious tone. It was just like him to stick to the code names. "Sake, Ice Cream, have you met the enemy?" Piko continues.
Then the static cuts off. Our connection with them lost. I felt like throwing up.
I bring the headset's microphone closer to my mouth. "Gackpoid?" I whisper.
"You there?" Len asks, just as quietly. I glance over at his plane. Without having to ask the others, I knew we all felt the same sadness.
Gakupo should be back by now. And
Group 5 was most likely dead.
