"C'mon!" Callah muttered as she furiously shook her computer. "Just work!"
After furiously clicking and moving the mouse a couple more times, she slammed her laptop closed, muttering quietly.
'What is up with my computer?!' she thought angrily as she fell on the bed. She thought about how stressed life was compared to when she was younger, looking at the ceiling. She missed those days. They were much easier than...
"Callah! Go let the dogs out!" her father called from (probably) across the house. "Okay!" she talked back and walked downstairs. After almost falling down them twice (don't ask), she got down to the bottom. She opened the door, and let her two Siberian huskies out, watching them run around and get mud on their already dirty coats.
Suddenly, the lights flickered vigorously. Callah let out an ear-piercing scream, and sprinted outside, slamming the door shut.
She felt as if her heart was beating out of her chest. Sure, some electronics had bugged out, but never the lights.
While she was standing outside trying to calm her racing heart, she could hear faint voices in the distance. Still scarred out of her mind, she shakily whipped around to look at where she thought the voices were, only to just see the normal cars in her driveway. Although she couldn't see anybody, she could still hear the voices, so, due to her curious nature, she decided that she would climb the tree to get a better vantage point.
Her backyard was surrounded by a 5 ft. silver, chain link fence. The tree was the only one in her backyard, standing at about 14-16 ft. Around twice the size of the height of the 7-8 ft. tall power lines that sat right above the fence and a little bit in the tree.
She could only get about 3/4 into the tree, but that was enough to see small, black, pick-up truck come into view, as well as two people.
One of those people was a man that looked to be in his late 20's to early 30's. He had dark brown hair that was mostly covered up by a black cowboy hat. He had a red flannel, dark blue (almost black) jeans and a pair of dark brown boots.
The women, however, looked a bit more like the people you would see in a big city. She had black hair in a long braid down her back with a small, white bow in it. She had heels that made me surprised I didn't see her earlier. Those things looked like skyscrapers! Her face, though, looked like it would have been pretty if it didn't have so much make-up on it that would put a clown to shame. Her eyes looked so dark that it was almost black, which made her seem to stare into your soul, even if she wasn't looking at you. Her lips were coated in bright red lipstick that looked like blood, and that just made her smile so scary that Pennywise would cringe.
They were standing in front of her father, and the aura they were giving off was definitely sinister.
When Callah leaned closer so she could hear better, the man looked straight at her! She backed up as quickly as she could to hide within the branches.
She saw the man squint as if he was trying to get a better look, then looked back at his companions quickly as if caught by one of them. Callah tried to listen to what they were saying, but with the wind blowing making the leaves rustle, and the dogs barking in houses around her, she could barley hear her own thoughts.
"Wha... king... i..." The women asked him.
"No... s... ga..." He replied hurriedly, shaking like a leaf, even with the summer weather.
Callah thought it best, with the wind picking up even more, to go ahead and get out of the tree. The tree she was in wasn't the most reliable thing on the days when the wind wasn't blowing, so being in it now was just pushing her luck.
She was almost down to the ground, when her dogs ran to the fence line. She thought nothing of it as she finally got to the bottom, until her dogs started barking and growling at it. "Stupid cats," Callah muttered quietly going over to the fence line.
There were two cats. One lived in the house behind them, and the other in the house beside them. The one behind them was a gray cat with dark gray stripes. She nicknamed him/her Graystripe because of the book she was reading at the time, Warriors. The other cat was a black and white cat that she called Mittens because of her white paws.
When she finally got over to the spot her dogs were trying to get at, her heart went in her throat, and her brain stopped working for a minute. "Definitely NOT a cat," she said quietly as she tried to get her train of thought straight. 'What is that?!' she thought while looking at the moving shadow on the ground.
Before she could even start thinking straight, the people's voices became louder. She looked to her left, and there were definitely shoes under the cars that were in the driveway. 'What am I gonna do!?' she internally screamed. Go towards the strangers, who definitely did not seem nice, or to the shadow that seemed like it was a part of another world. Neither seemed like a good choice...
Well, I hope y'all liked it! This is my first story, and it may have a bad updating schedule because exams are soon (two weeks!!! :( ) and I try to make sure everything in my writing makes sense. My friends probably got really annoyed at me asking them to read over it a thousand times... Sorry! I hope you forgive me! Anyways, you can point out any mistakes in any of the chapters because I am a new writer, and I would like your opinions on it! Thanks and I'll see ya in the next chapter!
