April 22, 2014. 3:15 p.m.

The smell of rain lingered in the air after the hurricane that blew through the whole tristate area. There were trees and power lines down which caused half the town to be without electricity. I watched as the twigs that hung from the gutters swayed in the wind and I patiently waited for them to fall. It took thirty five seconds for the big one in the corner to drop. I timed it on my phone.

Leaves blew and stuck to the classroom window. Brown, red, and orange. It was supposed to be my favorite time of year, but for some reason we've been getting so much rain that everything just looks like one big puddle.

Class was almost over. I could hear the teacher talk about our homework assignment, but I wasn't listening. I continued to stare out the window wondering how long it would take me to get to the roof of the school and jump off. How long would it take for someone to find my lifeless body, or would someone watch me fall like I'm watching the leaves fall now?

"Are you okay?" I jump at the sudden break in my thoughts to stare at the boy in front of me.

"Yes, fine."  He shrugs before handing me a packet. Our first big project of the year, and I can't wait to not do it. I shove the paper in my backpack and pack the rest of my supplies up before standing to my feet.

I'm about to leave the classroom when I hear someone scream.

Did someone jump? That was supposed to be me.

The whole class runs to the window, and I follow in unison.

A firefighter lied in the middle of the street, and it looked like something or someone was pulling him to pieces.

The class continues to scream and I begin to feel nauseous looking at all the blood and guts that were being spewed across the ground. This can't be real.

"That's a fucking zombie!" A boy yells. We all stare at him in horror. He was right.

It was a fucking zombie.
