What are you if you are not?
A prideful fool waiting to fall,
a fearful being living in rot,
or someone sharp starting to dull.
What are you if you are alive?
The easygoing with life gone by.
The straightjacket who loves to strive.
The lost within just waiting to die.
What are you if you are dead?
Spirits of silence and requiem,
geist of anger and guilty fed,
or a phantom who is and isn't solemn.
For what are we if we are not we,
but mere shells and images of the free.
