Rosemeri listened carefully to her history teacher, Mr. Dart as he lectured about World War II. She scribbled down notes as quick as her hands could write, occasionally pushing her glasses back into place.
Behind her she could hear snickers and laughter. She turned around to look at the three boys who sat next to each other everyday. Colin, David and Josh. They were the to cool for school stereotype.
"Colin, David, Josh! Please shut up." Mr. Dart yelled at the three, "Have some respect."
Rosemeri turned back and shook her head. She could still hear quiet chuckles from behind her. She tried to block them out as she continued to take notes.
The bell rung about ten minutes later and Colin was the first the stand up and leave. Rosemeri gathered her notebooks and pencils and carefully placed them inside her backpack. She swung her bag over her shoulder and headed for the door.
"Bye Rose." Mr. Dart said as she left.
Rosemeri waved bye to him and left. She wandered through the halls towards mathematics. She could hear Colin and his group talking loudly. She then paused and pushed pass people to reach the boys. When she did they eyed her with suspicion. Rose crossed her arms and glared.
"Ya know, you guys should have more respect towards your teachers! They're just trying to help you in life and you all just are rude back." Rosemeri scolded.
Colin laughed at her words, "Okay teachers pet."
Josh and David giggled to themselves. Colin ran his hand through his long brunette hair. He glared at Rosemeri.
"What are you doing still standing there? Shoo!" He waved his hands to shove her away.
Rosemeri attempted to slap them away but missed and just left them alone. She stormed off towards the classroom. Colin had always pissed her off. She tried to be tough but her weak stature and skinny body didn't help. Rosemeri pushed her shoulder length dirty blonde hair out of her eyes as she entered her next class.
The day flew by quickly and Rosemeri returned everything back to her locker before heading down to the school library. As she entered she waved to the librarian that sat behind her desk. The smell of old books filled the air. Rosemeri smiled as she pulled two thick books out of her backpack as she sat it down on a near by table. She handed the books to the librarian.
"Did you enjoy them?" She asked.
Rose nodded, "Oh yes, they were great I finished them both in three days."
Rose chatted with the librarian for a little bit before she heard footsteps run past the library door. Rosemeri quickly walked over and glanced out the small rectangular window on the door. She immediately saw Colin again. She frowned.
"What is he doing this time?" She whispered to herself as she opened the door.
She snuck out the library and followed Colin quietly. He left the school and ran down the street quickly, Josh and David following him like dogs.
Rosemeri watched as they disappeared down the road. She sighed, "They're nuts."
**
Rosemeri gathered her backpack from inside the library and left the school once again. She walked down the sidewalk towards home.
Her house wasn't very far from the school but everyday she had to pass an old construction sight that never seemed to be finished or was ever going to be finished. It was just abandoned and no one really knew why.
As she walked pass it she could hear distant voices coming from inside the construction sight.
"Come on!" One called.
She paused and tried to find where the voices came from but piles of dirt and old Caterpillars blocked her view.
Rosemeri wanted to know who these rebels were that were trespassing on this sight so she slowly walked around one large pile of dirt. As she went around it she noticed three boys looking down into a large ditch and sure enough it was Colin and his group.
Rosemeri frowned. Everywhere she went they seemed to pop up out of nowhere.
She walked up behind them and cleared her throat, "What are you guys doing?" She asked.
They all turned around and faced her, "Oh look it's teachers pet." Josh laughed.
"Ha ha, very funny." Rosemeri sarcastically replied, "Now what's going on?"
"We're just looking into this tunnel. Now mind your own business." Colin replied.
"Tunnel?" Rose said walking closer to get a glance of the tunnel and sure enough there was a large, deep hole that lead to a big tunnel underground. It was probably fifteen feet deep.
"What do you think is down there?" She asked looking closer over the edge.
"Why don't you find out?" David said before he pushed her.
Rosemeri let out a scream but David grabbed her by the arm, preventing her from falling. He pulled her back and pushed her to the dirt with a laugh.
"Ya scared?" He asked mockingly.
"Well duh! You would be terrified if I threatened to push you down there!" Rosemeri yelled as she stood up dusting off her red skirt.
Rosemeri was ready to leave again. She turned around and began walking away before she heard Josh sputter something.
"Did you see that?" He asked fearfully.
"Ya..." replied David.
Rosemeri turned around, "What?"
"There's something down there. Something big." Colin replied to her.
