Out On a Limb

"You'll never get anywhere in your life" are the charming last words of my mother, before she kicked me out of the house. Well it was 17 years coming, I suppose. It's been 2 months now, and I've moved on. I stayed with a friend and then found a part time job. I worked hard during the summer to be able to afford my small little appartment. It's essentially a one bedroom flat, with a bathroom and a small kitchen. I don't really need much more. It's above a shop in the heart of the city, so getting around isn't all that hard. I try to convince myself that I like it here. I'm just thankful for what I have. What I've worked for.

My name is Aleksandr. I'll be 18 in a few months and it seems like my life is going nowhere. I'm just getting by. I've almost got enough to afford a cheap car and any girl I've ever cared about has pushed me away or led me on. It's not that I'm bad looking, well at least not from what I've been told. I'm 6'1 with green eyes, medium length brown hair that's pushed up in the front, as well as the fact that I'm fairly fit. That's not bad, is it?  I could probably use a shave, I've got two days worth of stubble. I could also use a drink, that would be pretty nice right about now.

It's 6pm and I'm in bed. I decide to get out of bed and grab a shower. I get dressed up in some black skinny jeans and a white tshirt. I pull on some vans and I'm out the door. I walk down the street for a while, wondering what I should do. I look inside of shops, restaurants, parks. It's not that I can't afford it, it's just that nothing really catches my interest. I think it was right after I thought it, then I saw her. She was sat in a coffee shop. I swear her smile lit up the entire place, because it drew me in. I opened the door and walked in, without even really knowing what I was doing. Before I knew it I was stood infront of her table, where she sat alone, a coffee cup infront of her.

"Hi there."  I blurted out to her.

"Hello there." She responded in an Australian accent as she looked up at me. Her smile just about killed me. It was absolutely gorgeous. Then her eyes, don't even get me started on her eyes. They were the deepest blue eyes I'd seen in my entire life and I found myself lost in them. Her long wavy brown hair was just overkill, the way it was somewhat messy but still utterly cute.

"I... uhm..." I froze up. "You know what, to tell you the truth, I'm not really sure if I had something to say. I saw you through the window and I just had the urge to ask your name."

"To ask my name?" She smirked somewhat. " I've never had someone approach me just to ask my name. I'm Silvia. You are..?"

"Aleksandr, or Aleks if you prefer. It's with a 'k-s'"

"Interesting. You sure you're just here to ask my name, or did you have some other intention? You're not trying to sell my something, are you?" She smiled jokingly.

"No, I just thought you were the most beautiful girl I've ever layed eyes on, that's all."  I responded seriously. What the hell was I doing?

"Wow... Well you're rather straight forward, aren't you?" She seemed less cheerful, yet she still kept a smile on her lips.

"Not really, I'm not too sure what's come over me."

"Want to take a seat?" She gestured to me as she asked. I sat down after she offered.

"I hope I didn't get in the way of anything." I said after a few moments, realising she may have been waiting for someone.

"No, no. I'm just waiting for my body builder boyfriend to show up." She smiled at me.

"Oh." Is all I could manage to get out.

"I'm messing with you, Aleksandr." She smiled wider.

"Oh, you scared me a bit to tell the truth." I smiled along with her.

"Don't do that." She said with a joking tone.

"Don't do what?" I asked, unsure of what she meant.

"Don't look at me like that. It's probably the cutest thing I've ever seen." She said with a mild smile.

"You're kidding, right?" I asked, unsure.

"No." Her cheeks turned a slight red.

"Would you like to go out sometime?"

"We'll see." She responded with a smile. "Here." She said and passed me her phone. "Put your number in. Maybe I'll call you." I put my number in and passed it back. She put the phone in her purse and started to get up.

"I'll be waiting for your call." I smiled at her.

"I told you not to do that." She smiled back. "It's been a pleasure to meet you, Aleksandr." She said and began to leave. What the hell just happened? I watched as she left. She looked as though she had such direction. She knew what she was doing. Maybe that drew me in more than how beautiful she was.
