Episode 12

The opening ends with Jaune Arc, uniformed and sleeping, his head resting in his hands. Professor Bartholomew Oobleck is in the middle of his hyperactive lecture, speaking at a rapid pace while Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, Pyrrha Nikos, Velvet Scarlatina, and Cardin Winchester are in the classroom.

Oobleck: "Yes, prior to the Faunus Rights Revolution—more popularly known as the Faunus War—humankind was adamant about centralizing the Faunus population in Menagerie." (points at the map with his stick) "Now, while this might seem like ancient history, remember that these are relatively recent events. The repercussions of the uprising can still be seen today. Have any of you faced discrimination due to your Faunus heritage?"

Some students raise their hands, including Velvet after a moment.

Oobleck: "Dreadful, simply dreadful! Remember, students, this ignorance breeds violence! Just look at what happened to the White Fang. Now, who can tell me the turning point in the third year of the War?" (A hand is raised) "Yes?"

Weiss: "The battle at Fort Castle!"

Oobleck: "Precisely! And what advantage did the Faunus have over General Lagune's forces?"

Unseen by the professor, Cardin flicks a paper football at Jaune's head, waking him up.

Jaune: "Hey!"

Oobleck: (zooming over) "Mr. Arc, finally contributing! This is excellent! What's the answer?"

Jaune: "Uhhhh... The advantage... that the Faunus..." (looks at Pyrrha for help) "...had over that guy's stuff..." (he sees Pyrrha mouthing the answer) "...Binoculars!"

The class laughs, and Oobleck sips his coffee. Pyrrha facepalms as Cardin laughs.

Oobleck: (back at the front) "Very funny, Mr. Arc! Cardin, care to share your thoughts?"

Cardin: "Well, I know it's easier to train an animal than a soldier."

Pyrrha: "You're not open-minded, are you, Cardin?"

Cardin: "What? Problem?"

Y/n: (wakes up) "Cardin, shut up before I knock your lights out. The answer is night vision. Many Faunus have nearly-perfect sight in the dark." (Cardin growls)

Blake: "General Lagune was inexperienced and made the mistake of trying to ambush the Faunus in their sleep. His army was outmatched, and he was captured." (turns to Cardin) "If he paid attention in class, he wouldn't have been such a failure."

Oobleck: (as Cardin gets up) "Mr. Winchester, take your seat." (as Jaune laughs at Cardin, zooming up to him) "Both you and Mr. Arc can see me after class for additional readings."

Jaune: (shoulders slumping) "Oohhhh..."

Oobleck: (zooming away) "Now! Moving on!"

When the lesson ends, Pyrrha, Nora Valkyrie, and Lie Ren exit the classroom. Pyrrha stops near the doorway.

Pyrrha: "You go ahead. I'll wait for Jaune." (they look back inside as the after-class talk occurs between the two boys)

Oobleck: (sips his coffee) "You two have been struggling in my class since day one! I don't know if it's a lack of interest or your stubborn nature, but whatever it is..." (takes a long sip of his coffee) "It stops now! You've worked hard to gain entrance to this school, and we only accept the best of the best. I expect you to act like it. History is important, gentlemen! If you can't learn from it, you're destined to repeat it. Pages fifty-one to ninety-one! I want an essay on my desk by next class! Now, run along. Oh, and Mr. Branwen, please stay for a minute."
