Chapter 22
Josie pulled Tristan away from her neck. Travis looked like he’d just seen someone murdered before his eyes.
Josie looked at the little boy and asked, “What do you mean? Mommy Shosie?”
Tristan’s eyes danced with joy. “You! You Mommy Shosie! You stay with Daddy now!”
Josie said, “I don’t understand--”
“You Mommy Shosie!” Tristan insisted, pointing at her. “Daddy and Mommy Shosie! Mommy and Daddy Sam!”
Okay...this isn’t good…
“Tristan,” Josie said as calmly as her racing heart would allow, “Daddy and I aren’t married--”
“Yes!” Tristan yelled louder. “YOUMommy Shosie!”

Josie gazed, stupefied for a moment. For a boy his age, that was some serious intellectual reasoning. He thinks we’re married because we walked down the aisle together…in a wedding…
“What about Aunt Christy?” Josie said to Tristan. “She held hands with Uncle Ben. They didn’t get married.”
Tristan said, “A’nt Chrissie have onedaddy. Unc’l Joe. No two daddies in same house. Mommy’s rule.”
That almost made her laugh...if it weren’t for the expression on Travis’ face. His fear of losing his son was quickly getting replaced by anger.
Josie cleared her throat and said, “Go give your Daddy a hug.” While I think of a way to get us out of this mess…
Tristan crawled out of her lap and went to Travis, who clutched his son for dear life. Josie stood up and paced the tent. Okay...okay...I can handle this… She looked at the father and child. Travis’ eyes were clenched shut, squeezing a wiggling boy in his arms, and Josie thought, Because Travis is in no state of mind to do this...
