The sound of little foot steps could be heard from the floor above. I let out a heavy sigh, rolling my eyes; going to the staircase and standing on the bottom step, I yelled as loud as I could, "Boys! Let's go, or we're gonna be late!" I backed up and waited for a second, and then the foot steps got louder and faster as they approached the top of the steps. "How many times have I told you," I shrieked, my heart practically in my throat, "No running on the steps!"
"Sorry, daddy!" Cadence, the older twin, laughed and looked back at Cameron, who was still at least a good foot behind him.
"Sorry isn't gonna cut it when you fall because you were running down the stairs." I crossed my arms and raised a brow at the two of them, hoping that they would finally understand that what I was trying to tell them was to keep them safe.
"Babe, relax," My husband half scoffed, half laughed, "they're just kids." he was sat on the couch, wrestling the shoes onto our younger, second set of twin boys.
"I'm not gonna relax when they're literally one trip away from cracking their heads open." Sometimes he was just as bad as them, no wonder they didn't wanna listen to me, they learned from the best.
Technically, the worst.
"You worry too much," He sighed, scrunching his face as Caleb, the younger but chunkier of the two, threw himself back, nearly hitting him in the face with a flying hand.
"I worry just the perfect amount, thank you very much." I rolled my eyes. "Now, boys, please get your shoes on or we're not gonna make it there."
"Sorry for running, daddy." Their little voices coming together.
I squatted down to be at their level, even though they were already nearly my height. "I know you are, boys. I just don't want you getting hurt, I love you." They offered me kisses and then went off towards the front door to slip their shoes on.
"Are you gonna help me put the boys in, or are you gonna make me do it myself?" Now, he had a twin on each arm, hanging off his forearms like little monkeys.
"Nah, I think you got this one covered." I smirked and winked, leading the big boys outside before he had a chance to protest.
When we pulled into my in-law's driveway, we could already hear everyone in the backyard, and not to mention that their cars were parked up and down the street. I could only imagine the complaints from the neighbors.
"Time to go crazy," I let Cade out and Caleb out of their seats while he let out Cameron and Cain. "Boys, walk your brothers into the back, please." I said before they had the chance to run off.
They each took a hand of the smaller twins and walked, rather impatiently as they still stumbled here and there, with them. "Hey," He grabbed the diaper bag from the floor. "You okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." I smiled up at him, "A little stressed, but that's just apart of being a dad."
He smiled back at me, closing the door. He caught my jaw in his hand and kissed me, deeply, knowing that we probably would be too all over the place chasing the kids down once we got back there to sneak one in. "The sleepless nights, the endless crying, the tantrums, they're all worth watching these little humans grow up."
"I know," I smiled, being a dad was, undoubtedly, the best part of my life, and nothing came to a close second, well, being married to the love of my life was a close runner up. "Have I ever told you how sexy you look wearing a diaper bag?"
