kristy POV
I walk down the hall, AirPods in, listening to music. Although you're not supposed to be listening to any music during school.
Dammit, physics class is next. Wonder what project Ms. Robin will make us do today.
Resisting the urge to roll my eyes, I walk into the room, reading the board as I near it.
NEW SEMESTER, FEEL FREE TO SWITCH SEATS!! it reads in bright orange Expo. I hate when teachers write with light-colored markers; it's way harder to see near the back of the room. This time, I take a seat near the board, just so I could take notes, but not too close, for Ms. Robin would surely see me listening to music. Getting caught at our school would result in a behavior report, which could lead to an after-school detention if you were extremely unlucky. Plus, I didn't want to end up with Evan again.
Evan is one of those popular kids who liked me. He's arrogant and thinks every girl wants to be with him. Which is obviously false, unless you're a tryhard girl like Emilie. Who else would want to be with him? Seriously, what did I do to deserve him liking me? Did I, like, commit an unforgivable sin my last life?
"Hello, is this seat taken?" a voice behind me says, causing me to jump. It's a boy. He's gorgeous.
"Nah, not yet," I reply, turning my gaze off him and to the teacher, Ms. Robin. She starts by taking attendance. I listen closely for the boy's name, but when she calls on me, I raise my hand. Then I hear:
"Julian Kay?" the boy raises his hand.
"Everyone is here then. Let's get started..." she drawls on about circular motion, while I'm just texting my best friend, Jerry.
"So, um, how do you want to do this?" The boy asks, and it takes me a moment to realize he's talking to me.
"What?"
"The homework for today?"
"Oh, right..." I trail off, not knowing what to say next. Luckily, the bell rings.
Julian gets up, and says. "I'm really good at physics, do you wanna come over to my dorm this afternoon or something?" He flashes a grin. I can't help but notice how perfectly white his teeth are, it's like they're gleaming.
"Sure..." I offer a smile.
I go to his dorm at 3 in the afternoon, which is when school ends, and he's waiting already.
"Hi, sorry I'm late, my classroom is, like, across the campus so it's quite a distance. So how are we going to start the project?" I ask while slipping off my Vans and placing them by the door.
"Ooh, I have the same pair of Vans!" Julian laughs. "I have all the basic ones."
"Cool! I have 5 pairs." I set my backpack down on the floor.
"But anyway, how about you do 1 through 20, and I do 20-40?" he asks.
"Sure," I sit next to him and finish quickly. Even though I don't like it, AP Physics is probably one of my best subjects.
"Done? So am I. Let's check one another's answers, then copy it over," Julian takes my paper and gives me his.
"So, if you didn't know, I'm Julian, and I'm one of the school's football quarterbacks. I was the prom king for the last two years, but Lianta and I broke up a few months ago, so I'm single at the moment."
"Kristy -- you might know me as Jerry's girlfriend. I make TikToks in my free time and have over 500K followers. It's an fun hobby, y'know?" I return his paper to him and he gives me back mine.
"For sure! I actually... watch your TikToks, they're really nice! By the way, you got them all correct! Hold up, did I?"
"Yeah," I smile.
He glances down at the floor for a second. "Wanna exchange numbers?"
"Of course!" I show him my number and he shows me his. I add him as a contact, then pack my stuff, slip on my backpack, and slip on my checkered Vans.
