The Beginning

"I'm sorry."

The black-haired sea green-eyed boy looked up from his spot on the white sandy beach. He smiled, but then he frowned. The girls blonde princess curls blew back from her face in the wind. She had tears in her stormy grey eyes. The boy reached up to pull her down next to him, but she pulled away.

"I'm sorry, Percy, but we need to talk."

Percy's eyes widened. He knew that those words were the beginning of the end. At least that was what he had heard. But he didn't think that Annabeth would ever break up with him.

Percy stood up quickly, sand falling off of him as he stood.

"What? Why? What's wrong?" he fired out.

Annabeth took a few steps back but stumbled. She fell onto the sand and started sobbing. Percy took a step towards her and leaned down. He raised his hands to her face and brushed away her tears with his thumbs.

"Percy... I think we need to break up."

He froze. He didn't know what to do. This had never happened to him before. He pulled his hands away and stood up. Facing away from her he ran his fingers through his wild, already unruly, hair and sighed. Before he could say anything Annabeth was in front of him.

"Don't say anything," she said holding up her hand. "The reason is..."

She paused and raised her hand to her hair. She sniffled and a fresh wave of tears fell from her eyes.

"What? What is your brilliant reason?" Percy yelled. "I'm pretty sure that I have done nothing wrong."

Annabeth lowered her hand and glared at him. " I don't know. I just... I guess I just don't love you anymore."

He stilled. He closed his eyes and ran his hands down his face. He looked at her one more time. He memorized her beautiful grey eyes and her blonde princess curls. He memorized her amazing personality. He memorized everything about her.

And in his mind he threw it all away.

He brushed past her and walked into the ocean. He needed time to cool off. She just let him go. As he was waist deep in the ocean, he looked back. She was walking way. Not even glancing back.

'I guess she really doesn't love me.'
