CHAPTER VII

Shehwar twirled a lock of her hair around her index finger as she listened to Zareen on the other side of the phone.

'Alright. Talk to you later gotta go.'

'Yeah. AllahHafiz.' She hung up the phone then plugged it and placed it on her night stand.

A knock sounded on her bedroom's door followed by the swinging opening of it.

'May I come in?'

'Yes mother.' her step-mother chuckled as she opened the door widely. Shehwar would often register her step-mother as "mother" after Cinderella like she'd call her step-mother "mother".

'How are you?'

'Fine.' she sat up as she made space for her mother on her bed.

'Its a little funny living in the same house and not knowing the whereabouts and health of the other don't you think?'

'I totally agree.' she smiled. Her mother shook her head as she sighed.

'A pity. How we learn what family is, we teach our younger ones yet we forget the importance ourselves.' she said referring to the idea that a family has an important place in society and how detach one becomes as he grows old and gets busy in his daily life that he doesn't even get time for his family members.

'We're still better than some right?'

'Can't say. But I am proud of my girls.' she smiled and stroked her hair.

'Now com'n dinner's ready.'

'I'll be down in a minute and set the table.'

'No no it's all done. I came up to call you.'

'Alright then just let me wash my face and change.' her mother nodded and walked out of the room as she made her way over to the bathroom.

The sun was up in the sky when she found herself running to the other side of the campus mumbling and throwing a glance over her shoulders every now and then. She'd seen him making his way towards her when she'd bolted right out of the cafeteria.

He just wouldn't listen to her. She may have to record it and make him listen from time to time so he wouldn't forget. But..she sighed.

'Mehar.' she gritted her teeth. Never had she ever wished to vanish in thin air as she did then.

'What!?' she snapped and turned so fast that she was amazed she didn't break her neck in half.

He scratched the back of his neck where he had made a small pony tail of his long hair which was the most hated thing on him by her. She hated those long hair of his'.

'Um..you forgot to,' he cleared his throat as he stumbled on his words.

'What?! Zahyan?'

'You left your folder back in class.' she looked at his outstretched hand which held a folder with her name printed in front. She then furiously rummaged through her back to find it gone. Pissed at herself that she forgot it back in class and that Zahyan would be the only person of all to give it to her made her want to shoot him then herself. She pinched her eyes close, breathed deeply through her nostrils then opened her eyes and glaring daggers right at Zahyan she snatched her folder and gritted a thanks.
