Prologue

Dare 14

My vision was blurry. I could barely lift myself up. My ankle was swollen and red from falling on the concrete earlier. I looked around at the unfamiliar faces and only recognized my friend Liam. I grabbed onto his shoulder and slurred in his ear, "You're the best guy friend anyone could have." I start laughing and grabbed his cheeks and continue to slur my words, "You're so cute when you're so serious." I stop talking, feeling a nauseas filling at the pit of my stomach. I let go of his shoulder running into a dark alley near a trash can, doubling over and throwing up the last bit of food I ate earlier tonight. Vomit stained the ends of my hair, as I wipe away the rest on my lips with the back of my hand. I turn around to see Liam arguing with a guy half his height. Their exchange of words stuck with me as I began to blackout: "Dude you owe me!"

My head throbbed and I could barely make out shapes and objects. My vision was taken over by red and blue lights. Someone screamed my name, "Shay!"

I felt my head hit something hard as my body was being levitated through the glass windshield. I hit the crack, black concrete as my body is being rolled across. I can't feel my legs. My right arm was underneath my body. Tears began to run down my scar face. I tried to open my lips but my jaw was too heavy to move. I wanted to scream, yell, and shout for my dad. Tell him to come and rescue me, daddy's little girl. I couldn't breathe, each breath I took I felt a piercing, sharp pain in my ribs. Bright, white light takes over my vision.

I hear someone yelling, "Bring me the stretcher! I've got a pulse!"

The light goes away and a young featured woman takes over my vision.

She smiles and says, "Stay in their sweetheart."

She turns her face away and whispers "We're losing her."
