Insanes

Chapter 8

When I woke up, the sun blinded me so I squinted my eyes to see better. There were three figures looking down at me and I felt hard pavement underneath me, so I figured that I "fell asleep" and they watched over me. I tried sitting up but my head started pounding so I laid back down and took a deep breath.

"Ana, are you okay?" I recognized Dustin's voice and I nodded slightly. "What happened? We heard screaming and when we got out of the car, we saw you lying on the ground and we thought you..." He looked at Scarlet and she looked down at me.

"Do you want anything, like water or Advil?"

"Some space would help, kinda crowded here." Everyone backed away a little and I sat up against the car slowly. Thorn took my hand and squeezed it. I looked into his eyes and saw they were back to their normal color and I sighed, relief washing over me. He scooted next to me and put his arm around me and I leaned my head on his shoulder. Dustin got up and brushed himself off.

"We're leaving in a few, flight's leaving in..." He checked his watch and continued. "4 hours, and we're less than an hour away so hopefully we'll have plenty of time." He walked around the car and got in the driver's seat. Scarlet followed and got in the passenger seat and left Thorn and I sitting there.

"Ana, what really happened? Why'd you start freaking out last night?" He took his arm off of me and turned towards me, still holding my hand. 

"I started seeing things, like demonic creatures or something. Then you started turning into one of them... And when I passed out, I woke into my nightmare room. The voice was different this time... It told me I wasn't going to be prepared for the future and my loved ones are going to die." He looked at me with a worried look and he stood up, so I did the same. Then he wrapped his arms around me in a tight embrace.

"Everything's going to be okay, Ana. I'll protect you. Always." 

"I'm lucky to have you, Thorn. I'd probably be dead if you weren't there with me through it all." He pulled away and smiled at me.

"That's why I'll never leave you. Because you need me and I need you." He then leaned down and kissed me and I suddenly felt light and breathless. When he pulled away, we both smiled. "Let's go, we have a plane to catch." 

-An hour later-

We parked the car at a hotel not far from the airport and grabbed our bags. We waited almost half an hour for the bus and when we got to the airport, we had a little more than 2 hours to go through everything. I started feeling my insides twist and turn because I've never flown before. As we started going through baggage check and security, I started feeling more and more nervous. When we were finished with everything, we found our gate and sat there, waiting for our transport to hell. 

"We have about an hour or so, so feel free to do anything. Just listen for when they call our gate number." Dustin curled up after he finished talking and closed his eyes, obviously trying to get a bit more sleep in before we board. Scarlets goes off and tried to find the bathroom, and Thorn and I walk around to look at the shops and food and such. 

"How you holding up?" He looks at me and I half smile.

"I'm just nervous, is all. Anything can happen, ya know?" I look up at him and he nods. We walk past a couple shops selling coffee and snacks and all sorts of things and we ended up getting bored so we walk back towards the gate. When we get there, Dustin is still sleeping and Scarlet got herself some coffee. She offered me some and I took a sip.

"Well, isn't it amazing?" I nodded and sat down next to her with Thorn on my other side. I looked at the TV above the desk that showed the boarding time, what time we're taking off, and what time we're landing. We were going to board in about 10 minutes and take off in 40 minutes. The flight was about 4 hours long. I took a deep breath and hoped for the best. I took a look around at the seats around us and saw that there weren't many other people except for a few business-looking people. Then, I looked outside and saw the plane we were about to get on wasn't as big as the planes around it. I heard Thorn take a deep breath and I looked at him.

"Don't tell me you're nervous too." He blushed a little.

"Pssh, me? Nervous?" He then leaned closer and whispered, "Okay, I'm a bit nervous. I've never flown either. Don't tell Dustin or I'll never hear the end of it." I giggled and nodded. Then the PA came on and said something in a different language, then spoke in English. It said our gate was now boarding, so Scarlet woke Dustin and we walked toward the desk and handed them our tickets. They scanned them and ripped off a part and gave it to us. We then walked down the tunnel towards the plane and I glanced at the little paper. It showed what flight we were on and which seats we were sitting in.

"Hey Thorn, I call dibs on window seat." He looked at me and smiled.

"Fine by me." We kept walking and we stepped onto the plane itself. We showed the flight attendant our little tickets and she pointed us to our seats. We walked down the aisle slowly, stopping every so often to let people put their suitcases up into the overhead compartments. Once we got to our seats, Thorn and I got window seats on the left side while Dustin and Scarlet got the middle row. I looked out the window and watched the workers for a while before the PA came on, telling us all the safety procedures. I listened closely to make sure I knew what to do in case something bad did happen. When they finished, we fastened our seatbelts and Thorn put his arm around me. 

"We'll be fine. Just try to sleep." I nodded and looked out the window again. The plane started backing up slowly and before I knew it, we were going fast down the runway and then climbing up into the air. My ears popped and I watched the city grow smaller. Once we got up and over the clouds, I started to relax a bit. I closed my eyes and leaned my head against Thorn, listening to his soft breathing and his heartbeat. I smiled and dozed off, thinking to myself, I'm gonna be okay. I'm gonna be okay.
