Alice Snows'
Haunted Mansion
Amanda, Abby, Josh and Jake just moved into a house next to a creepy cemetery, and there are rumors that their mansion is haunted!
Chapter One
I don’t want to believe it, but I think my new mansion might be haunted. I’m not surprised, because we live next to the cemetery. As soon as we moved in two days ago, I knew something creepy would come and bother us.
The other day I figured out our mansion is turning into a loony bin for ghosts. For one thing, my basement is really spooky and dark, especially at night. Just the other day, I was doing my homework in there, when suddenly I heard whispers. My brothers and sister weren’t around, so I was really scared. It sounded so real!
I immediately called for Abby, Josh and Jake. When they got down in the basement, the whispers had stopped.
“What is it, Amanda?” Josh asked. I stood, scared to death and spluttered, “Whispers. In the basement. Right here.” Jake got so freaked out that he decided to help me investigate. As soon as we all agreed, Josh and Jake put on biohazard suits, and listened really hard for the sound again.
We must have been in there for an hour, but nothing happened. Then I heard something coming from the upstairs guest bathroom. It sounded like a low angry moan.
Abby lead the way to the bathroom. Since the mansion was so old, it had no electricity. I lit a small oil lamp that had been knocked over on the stairs. There were many cracks in the transparent glass, but it wasn’t too bad. The little flame couldn’t jump out and burn us.
We crept up the stairs, step by step in single file. With each footstep, the stair creaked. Finally, we made it to the first landing. There are three staircases to the upstairs bathroom. Step, creak. Step, creak. By the third landing, we were pooped.
“Let’s keep going!” I said, and we begin again. Step, creak. Step, crack! I got my foot stuck through a stair that couldn’t hold up. Josh pulled me out again and soon we reach the top. I broke into a run, zooming to the bathroom.
