The next few days were pretty routine. Watch, sleep, wake up, move. That's all they did. But it was fun. In between Kat was either hanging out with Chance or trying to get away from Blake. But everything was great for Kat, except the five hundred missing posters hung up. Apparently she was worth a lot to the King and Queen; around 10,000 coins to be exact. They had offered up a reward that could make anyone rich, so they were all looking everywhere for her.
Tonight was her watch with Chance. They were pretty good friends now so no more awkward silence, she hoped. As night approached they all, one by one, headed to bed until the only ones left were Josh, Bone, Chance, Kat, and Blake (who had one arm around Kat already).
"So, Chance I was wondering if I could take your shift tonight so Kat and I could have some alone time?" Blake said, winking at Kat.
"Not tonight man," Chance replied, "I was gonna teach her a little mor about the group."
"Alright, alright. But I've got my eye on you." Apparently Blake thought he and Kat were a couple. He was wrong.
"Hey, man, you still have a crush on the hot chick. Right?" Josh asked quietly while Kat was trying to get Blake to leave.
"No." Chance responded quickly, "We're just friends. Even if I did like her it wouldn't matter.". Truth was, he did like her. She was kind, caring, funny, and beautiful. She reminded him of his mother. She had been the one he looked to for everything. It was nice to feel like he had her back.
"Well if you did like her, tonight would be the perfect time to lay down a move." Bone answered. He was still against having a girl around. His mother was the reason that he joined this group, he didn't want to repeat the past.
"Please," Chance laughed, "I think Blake would kill me if I hit on Kat."
"Whatever," Bone replied, "I'm goin to bed. You should too Josh, we've got third watch tonight."
"Yeah, you're right. Well night Chance; try not to have too much fun tonight." Josh and Bone laughed. Chance hit Josh in the leg, but they kept walking.
Once Blake finally left (but not without threatening Chance) it was officially their watch.
"I thought he'd never leave." Kat said. They always mocked Blake's effort to be cool.
"I know. And apparently if we come less than six inches apart I'm gonna loose an eye!" they laughed at the threats. Anyone knew that Chance would pummel Blake if the time came.
After a minute of laughter, Kat could hear voices coming from the street. She shushed Chance. She stood up and slowly walked to the corner so that she could peek around. When she saw nothing, she walked a little bit farther, just out of Chance's sight. After a minute she didn't come back. Chance got up and quietly turns around the corner when a cloth went over his mouth and knocked him out. But just before he passed out he caught a glimpse of a man. He was familiar. Then he remembered the sight of....
His real father.
