PRÓLOGO

After so many decades of war I thought peace would come....

The 20th century saw the two world wars and then three decades of tense peace blessed the world, then the economic crisis in the late 1980s resulted in the third world war.

One ship from the stars silenced the weapons and the war ended, but human nature is self-destructive and another began: the war of global unification.

The UNSpacy defeated the communist forces of EBSIS and it seemed that peace would come....

My name is Jr. Knight, and I come from outside the city of Los Angeles, California, I'm heading to Macross Island to become a Monster mecha pilot. I come from a very wealthy family, I could have stayed in my mansion and enjoyed a life of luxury and excess, but what boy wouldn't want to be part of a crew on a spaceship?

Challenging my parents I joined the UNSpacy-RDF and now I'm coming to the island, from the military plane I can see the ship being rebuilt, they will call it SDF-1.

The training was hard, I don't understand why they make us train so much if in the end I'm only going to be a mecha pilot and not a space marine. A base commander, a Roy Fokker talks to my instructor and he sends me to Fokker's place, apparently I've been reassigned as a veritech pilot.

I'm afraid of heights but Fokker is a good instructor, maybe too much because in the end I'm already one of the best pilots there is, of course I'll never surpass my childhood idol, a guy named Rick Hunter, who year after year won championships in acrobatic flight, precision and speed.

I don't know what Fokker saw in me, to have reassigned me from mecha pilot to veritech pilot, but I'm not complaining, quite the contrary, however, I still can't decide if I like the man or not, there's something about him that I don't like but I can't specify what he is.... No, it's not envy, but anyway, I shake off those thoughts because I have to prepare for the demonstration of precision flying that I will do with other pilots on the day of the SDF-1 take-off.

THE BLACK VERITECH

Chapter 1: Meetings on Macross Island

Jr. Knight was ascending the firmament in a perfect formation flight when a red and white civil plane burst through the formation from nowhere.

What the hell! shouts a pilot.

He's crazy, he almost killed us, the asshole! complained another.

"A vertical hawk ascent flight... Only a pilot can do such a thing... Rick Hunter," thought Jr. more to himself.

The veritech of Jr. is heading for the track and then quickly descends from it.

Boss, I'm putting you in charge! shouts Jr. to the mechanics and no matter what their screams are, he's headed to Fokker's.

After a brief career, Jr. finds Fokker, who is talking to a boy his own age.

"He's... He's Rick Hunter!"thought Jr. and he ran to Rick's in a hurry.

Commander Fokker, sir. -Jr stands firm. Emm sir... I could talk to your friend.

Fokker laughed eagerly at the nervousness of his underling.

Hey Knight, I didn't know you liked boys," he said as he laughed his head off.

I don't like them! I just... I just... I didn't know you knew Rick Hunter.

What, you two know each other? Fokker asked Rick, but he shook his head.

Excuse me," said Jr. as he stood in front of Rick as Fokker was of no use to him at the moment, you are Rick Hunter, undisputed champion for years in free flight and others.... I am your fan, I have all your stunt videos and I even have an autographed picture of you.

Good, thanks for supporting me... -Rick said.

Jr, Jr Knight, but I prefer to be called by my last name Knight, Jr. It reminds me of an oil tanker soap opera and everyone was making fun of it, and who sends parents to call their poor kids Jr, if I were a general I'd shoot them," said Knight, making Rick laugh.

Fokker explained to Knight the relationship he had with Rick, whom he considered a younger brother.

Sir, excuse me, but may I join you? I know I haven't seen your friend in years, but I wish I could be with you... Could I, sir?

Fokker frowned at Knight and turned to Rick, who saw no objection to Knight accompanying them.

Just call me Rick," he said to Knight, who was very happy to be next to his idol.

Fokker and Knight were playing tour guides for Rick and headed to a robot soda vending machine, the three of them enjoying their drinks when a girl of Eastern descent was apparently having an argument with her younger brother. Fokker wouldn't look away from the girl looking at her in a perverted way.

Wow Roy, I see you're still a conqueror," Rick reproached him.

"Now I know what I dislike about Commander Fokker," Knight thought. "The womanizer, he reminds me of my father, the times I saw him kissing other women."

After finishing their drinks, the three of them headed to the hangars and Rick learned about the mechanical and flying aspects of the veritechs. The mechanics looked like few friends, but Fokker was known for his disrespect for military protocol and with a glance sent the mechanics to shut up.

Knight felt like in a dream to be next to his hero, but there was a deafening noise and they also heard the alarm sirens from the base...
