Cheryl took a sip from her cherry coca-cola drink. Cheryl couldn't help but gaze into Toni's eyes. They were so deep and vast. It was like Cheryl could dive right in. Cheryl was feeling something in her heart that she had never felt before: hope. Toni smiles at this. Toni loves seeing this side. The side where Cheryl could be herself and not fear of the consequences. Toni was thriving at Cheryl's nervousness and loved to softly pick at it. "Do want to get some popcorn, red?" Toni asks.

"Sure. Popcorn's great."

"One large popcorn, please," Toni told the server.

He quickly dipped the tub within the popcorn station and produced a bright yellow popcorn tub overflowing over the sides. Toni handed the money while Cheryl looked at her. Toni takes a piece of popcorn and slips it into her mouth. Cheryl couldn't help but watch her lips as they moved up and down.

Toni asks," You ready?"

"Yeah. I hear it is really good," Cheryl says walking slowly next to Toni.

Toni smiled. They continued walking down the hallway until they saw a sign: Love, Simon (7 pm). They opened the door underneath the sign they saw before and go inside. It was dark and the previews were already showing. Cheryl couldn't help but notice all the kids from school: Moose with his perfect girlfriend Midge in the back, Ethel Muggs sitting in the front eating candy corn from her purse, and Kevin and Josie? Sitting together in the middle. Cheryl wishes she choose a- not- so popular movie for tonight but she felt the tug of her jacket and she turned around and it's Toni. "Where do you want to sit?" Toni asks.

The question isn't where does Cheryl want to sit but where does she not. She doesn't want to sit in the back near Moose and Midge where she would have to either had to see them makeout or hear them makeout which makes Cheryl want to gag. She doesn't want to sit in the front because a) sitting in the front sucks b) she doesn't want to hear Ethel ugly cry at sad and emotional scenes. Cheryl chooses to sit, the two rows ahead of Kevin and Josie because it's the best of three bad options.

Cheryl sits on the outside with Toni to her right. The first preview is for some dumb action movie that makes Cheryl roll her eyes at. Toni starts digging into the popcorn bucket. She makes a good dent into it. Toni offers the popcorn to Cheryl but she doesn't take any. Toni shakes her head okay. She gently sets her arm on their shared armrest but accidentally brushes against Cheryl's hand. Cheryl glances at her but Toni doesn't move her hand. She keeps it there like she daring Cheryl to do something about it. Cheryl moves her arm away and continues watching the movie.

Cheryl watches how close Simon is with his friends in the movie. It makes her a little jealous. Her friends didn't even invite her to Veronica's lakehouse. She's never really needed by her friends until someone wants something from her. It's the reason why Toni makes Cheryl go insane. Toni doesn't want anything from Cheryl but she keeps pushing to be near Cheryl. Cheryl wonders What makes me so special? She pushes that thought away.

She watches a scene between Simon and his mother. She can see how much love his mother has for Simon. How she just wants happiness for Simon and she can tell how he has been holding himself back because of his sexuality. Cheryl can relate to hiding a piece of yourself because of other people. Cheryl does that all the time with her mother. The mother who has always been cruel to her and never shown her love. Cheryl lets the tears fall down her cheek. This moment she is vulnerable and afraid. Toni notices this, she can't help but feel empathy for Cheryl. Tonight Toni got to see the real Cheryl the one who wasn't tough and wasn't a giant B. Toni looks at Cheryl with clarity in her eyes. Cheryl looks back and for a moment smiles.
