Feeling down, Jada made her way to school the next day. Everyone seemed to be pretty down too.
"Jasmin, what's up with everyone?" Jasmin was not in her usual hyped mood but replaced with a look of sadness. "We-we lost." Jada looked around convinced her friend might be joking but slowly realized Jasmin was telling the truth.
"You're kidding me! How?" Walking down to first period, she listened carefully.
"Well Jamal he had a chance to get the shot. Then he just looked into the crowd and missed. For the whole motherffing game he didn't give one bit of effort, he just kept looking into the crowd!" Jasmin looked really pissed. "Plus why weren't you there? I had to sit with pervy Pete." A glare surfaces her face.
Jada thought about telling the truth but voted against it. "I couldn't make it, I had stuff to do." As Jada pulled out her phone, Jasmin declared she had somewhere to be and left.

Jada: Jamal what happened out there?
Jamal: Who is this?
Jada: it's Jada
Jamal: right....I deleted ur number
Jada: why
Jamal: I just did OK
Jamal: what do you want
Jada: I never knew...that I affected the way you played
Jamal: u didn't affect shit. Don't start making shit about you.
Jada: ik ur mad but please just call me
Jamal: whatever make it quick cuz I'm leaving soon
Jada: k
Jada felt like hell. All she could think about was Jamal. After 5 minutes of conversing with herself she called him.
"Hello?" His voice making her smile. Jada never realized it before but now it was clear. "Hey Jamal. I am so sorry. I just didn't take you telling people we were dating well." She heard a sigh on the other end.
"Did I ever tell you how much I really wanted you for so long." Jada listening to this, felt bad again but not only that; she felt butterflies.
"Yea, you told me."
"Well just tell me something. Did or do you feel anything for me?" His voice was concerned and soft.
"Yes." She admits shyly in a whispered tone. "And no, not because you are a basketball player and all but you are different and I know it."
"Well, you were right about the um...loss at the basketball game. I was looking for you and you weren't there. Girls would usually go crazy and stuff if I asked them but you are different from all those girls." Jamal closed his eyes in defeat.
"I have to go but we should hang out this weekend." Jada hoped he'd agree. "Yea. That's cool, let's talk more tomorrow". Jamal told her and hung up.

Next day Jada headed to her Chemistry class, stopping at the vending machine she bought gummy worms. In class she felt like she was in paradise. All she could think of was- "Jada, Jada Richards!" Interrupting Jada's thought Mrs.Stewart told her to answer the question.
"I'm sorry Mrs. Stewart can you repeat." Jada never got on a bad foot with a teacher and wasn't planning to. "I said, What is the square root of pie?" Mrs. Stewart's expression was hard as steel. "It is 1.772453851. Sorry for not paying attention." Mrs. Stewart smiled and went on with her lesson.
After Chemistry, Jada took the long way to the bathroom to waste a bit of time. Coming out of the boys bathroom was Jamal, who had a smirk plastered on his face. "Hey Jada! What's up?" This time Jada smiled up at him. "Hi Jamal" Jada then did something she would usually never do. She hugged him. Surprisingly or not so surprisingly, he hugged her back.
"Wow Jada! Did you smoke weed?" Jamal teased her.
Jada started to blush and Jamal started to smile.
"That was me giving sympathy for what happened at the game!" Jada said quickly. Jamal leaned against the wall. "Oh come on babe. I know you've been dying to do that since the day you met me." As smooth as ever Jamal hugged her again and took off down the hall. Speechless Jada went her way.
Somewhere in the bathroom a voice started speaking. "Surprise, Surprise..... look's like my bestfriend is a lying bitch." Turning around Jada panicked, but soon felt relieved as she saw who it was. "Hey Jasmin, I never noticed you and "A lying bitch" what movie did you get that line from?" Smiling Jada went into her stall. "You are such a lying bitch you know!" Jasmin repeated herself. "Um...if you haven't noticed Jas you said that already! What did I do anyways?" Jaada could hear Jasmin pacing around. Coming out to wash her hands she was ready to ask again but Jada was ready to answer. "Come on Jada, like you don't already know. You really fucked up this time. You said nothing was going on with you and--" Jada interupted with a sigh. "Nothing is going on okay? We are just friends. Plus why would you care."
"You have known me since-well forever, and you have always been the little miss perfect with perfect grades, perfect attendence, every guy likes you, oh my gosh the list goes on. I have always acted like I cared and you never gave sqat about me. It's all about you and your little problems, all I ever wanted was to be bestfriends with you. But no I'm the Duff ratchet friend. You basically never call me and you never hang with me anymore. I keep telling myself that maybe you are just caught up doing something but now I know that our friendship is based on a lie."
Jada stood there shocked. "Jas I-I'm sorry. I have been busy with everything and-" Laughing, Jasmin interupted her. "With everything? With Everything?" Jada got a little nervous. "Yea...school work and stuff but um what does this have to do with Jamal again?"
"Stupid, you are so stupid. I love him okay. He didn't tell you did he, well let me help you understand. Me and him had a thing, well we use to but you stepped in when we were in middle school. You moved here and all he could talk about was your stupid ass. I had to play your friend because I knew you were innocent but now you're aweful." Jasmin started pacing again. "I didn't know...I thought you were happy. I won't be with him if you don't want me to." Jada said walking out a little. "No! I want you to suffer. I'm going to ruin the rest of your high school year." Walking out the bathroom Jasmin turned back and said "Count on it".

"Jamal tell me the truth." Jada and Jamal left at lunch to go to McDonald's. Jada decided to investigate. "Did you and Jasmin date?" Laughing Jamal answered, "That girl was a creep Jad, that year she left in grade 9 was to go to a Mental Hospital. She liked me and all but I didn't feel anything for her. She use to always say she "loved" me and all but after you came along she just stopped. She's burst anyways."
Jada sighed.
"I don't know Jamal, things are confusing now." Taking another sip of her drink. Her phone then rang and she jumped a little. "Are you okay Jad?" Slightly nodding she put her cup down. "Yes, No..I dont know.". Jada took out her phone and checked who it was. "It was my Cousin, I almost forgot I have to go to her house." Quickly shuffling she finished her drink and took her Mcdonalds bag with her. "I can drive you there and get you back in time." Jamal offered. "It's okay. I'm not staying the whole day at school anyways but Thanks for offering."
Shrugging he smiles. "No problem and call me or text me." They both got up and walked back to school. "She's going to pick me up so I guess I'll call you" They hugged and Jamal went back into school. While Jada secretly wished that hug was longer.
Out of the corner of Jada's eye, she spotted Jasmin staring at her. Was she there the whole time? Jada wondered. Jasmin got up and gave Jada the evil eye and left. Jada was left there wondering how her bestfriend turned against her. First she has a guy in her life now and then her bestfriend leaves her for that guy. She was the one who wanted me to be with him in the first place. What the hell did I get myself into. Finally Jada's ride arrived.
I have to figure out how to make this better. What do I do?. Confused Jada sat silent the whole ride.
