'You fought so many years

But your head wasn't clear

Too much for you to take...'

- 'Into Winter' by Rachel Macwhirter

"Hey, Miituna," Sollux said softly, sitting beside his brother. He saw the smile cross the older's lips and couldn't help but return it slightly. "How are you holdiing up...?"

"Better, II thiink," returned Mituna, his fingers twitching just the tiniest bit. He had the same lisp that his younger brother did, but it was kind of worse. Oh well. Genetics be damned, right? "The doctorth thiink II miight be able two go home thoon."

"So soon?" the younger asked, admitted a little surprised. He then shook it off, just giving his brother a kind look. "II'm glad two hear that."

Mituna nodded, smiling more. "IIth Latula okay?"

Sollux nodded a little. "Yeah. She got off wiith a headache. That's about iit."

The older sighed softly in relief. "II'm happy."

"Oh! Thiinkiing of happy..." The younger reached into his pocket and pulled out a few small packets. He slid them into his brother's hand with a small wink. "Somethiing two relax you."

Mituna looked at the packets and spazzed the Hell out, his arms flailing in delight. Well, that and some other reason, too, that he did not know of as of yet. He opened one of the small packets and quickly slurped up the sickly sweet liquid inside. Sweet, sweet honey...! Once the liquid was down his throat for the most part, the male popped his lips, licking around the inside of his mouth to lap up any remaining honey. "Thankth!"

"Just don't tell mom, okay?"

"You got iit!"

With that, Miituna gave Sollux some skin, slapping the palm of his hand with his own. He then shoved the two remaining honey packets in his pocket, planning on eating them up later when he wanted to. He had to have the coolest little bro, he just knew it! Not even lame-o Dirk's brother could compare to Sollux! No way, no how. He gave a small hiccup, blinking in some surprise before laughing it off. He grinned insanely, tilting his head at his little brother.

The two conversed for a little while, both laughing at some lame jokes that they made, and Sollux told Mituna that his board had been broken. When the older frowned deeply at this, the younger assured him that he, himself, would make him a new board. One that would be so 'rad' that it would blow Latula away. This seemed to cheer up the older, his frown fading entirely. Instead, it was replaced with a small smile.

Sollux sheepishly returned the smile. He told him that it would take a while, but Mituna just chuckled. The older informed him that he didn't mind the wait. He knew his awesome, little brother would get it finished, sooner or later. He didn't mind taping up his wrecked board until then. His mouth twitched slightly just before he felt the entirety of his left arm errupt into pins and needles of searing hot pain, tingling and burning like the trickles of a flame. A hiss came from the back of his throat in discomfort.

"What's wrong?" Sollux questioned, alarmed. He quickly laid a hand on his older brother's arm, the one that was burning. It felt cool against the heated flesh.

"Iit hurtth," ground out the older, trying to flex his fingers. He didn't feel them, but he figured that they must have moved since he did feel the muscles in his upper arm flex ever so slightly from the action. Then the burning sensation faded, leaving Mituna to sigh in some relief. He gave his younger brother a reassuring smile. "II'm alriight..."

"Are you sure?" Sollux asked him, a frown over his lips.

"II'm thure," nodded Mituna. "II gueth my arm jutht fell athleep for a miinute there."

The younger gave a slightly relieved sigh, gently squeezing his arm in his hand. "Good... II was worriied..."

"II know you were."

The two shared a small smile between them. The next day, Sollux got up, getting ready to go pick up his older brother with his mother. He was brushing his teeth when he heard his mother talking downstairs in the kitchen. Toothbrush still in his mouth (still brushing his teeth), the male began to walk out of the bathroom and down the staircase. He peeked his head inside of the kitchen door. What he saw shocked him.

His mother was standing there, her blue eyes wide. She was in shock, the male could tell. Over what, he didn't know yet, but he figured it had something to do with whatever the person had told her over the cell phone in her hands. He took a small step inside of the kitchen, tilting his head at his mother. "Mom?" he asked around his toothbrush, sounding a little dorky.

His mother's eyes shot over to him, silencing him. She said a few quick things into the phone with a heavy sigh before hanging up. "Sollux..." she whispered softly.

"Yeah?" the younger asked her with a tilt of his head. He went over to the sink, washing off his toothbrush and rinsing his mouth. He rinsed the sink then looked back at his mother. She had been silently waiting on him to do what he needed to before responded in a small voice.

"Mituna... well, I just got a call from his doctor..."

"And?"

"He has a brain tumor that it seems that they cannot remove."

Sollux paused, his heterochromatic eyes wide and blinking. Did he hear her right...? "He has... a tumor?"

His mother nodded a little grimly. "It seems like he woke up in the middle of the night, having thrown up and then fell on the floor when he tried to get back to his hospital bed... He was having a seizure when a nurse came in to check on him..." She saw how mortified her son looked and delicately wrapped her arms around him. "They checked and they found that he had the tumor..."

"Does... does he know...?" Sollux asked her, still in shock.

"He will when he wakes up..."

"Diid he pass out...?"

"After they calmed him down and got him to eat something to settle his stomach, yes..."

"So... he doesn't know yet... Not at all..."

"That's right."

"Will... will he be able to come home still?"

"Of course. But not until later this afternoon. They want to treat him through radiotherapy..."

"Radiiotherapy...?"

"To treat the tumor since they can't take it out through surgery."

Sollux looked up at his mother with confusion. "How does that work?"

His mother only smiled. "Don't worry about it, alright? For now, let's go to the store and get some things for when your brother comes home."
