"Mama where are you going?" Danny bounced with her brush still in her hand. "And who's that?" There was a man who Danny had never seen before. He seemed to be her father's complete opposite.
"This," her mother looked up from her phone. "This is Fraco." The man didn't meet Danny's eyes. He continued to carry bags to the car waiting outside.
"Where are you going?" Her mother sighed and kneeled in front of Danny.
"Daniella, mama's gonna go somewhere for a while." She held Danny's hand that was pulling the hair-tie. "Turn around." Danny did as her mother said and handed her the brush. "Pay attention." Danny nodded. "First, you gather your hair on the top of your head like this." Her mother's long fingers swiftly swiped all Danny's curls on the top of her head. "Then, you take the brush and make sure that it is all back." Danny loved the way the brush felt against her scalp. "Don't get frustrated about the back of your head. Some curls won't reach the top. It's okay."
"Ok."
"After all of it is back, take your elastic and tie it three times around your hair." Danny thought to herself that she will do it twice because three times was too much. "All done." Danny turned around and hugged her mother.
"Isebel," Danny's mother turned to the man with the long hair. "Time to go." Her mother nodded and faced Danny. Danny noticed that her mother's face was void of emotion.
"Bye, Danny." Isebel patted her daughter's shoulder slipped her heels on.
Danny reached to her hair-tie and started to pull it.
"See you tomorrow, mama." Her mother didn't respond. When the door closed, Danny's elastic snapped.
