Following the usual routine, Claire and I take the bus to school and head to our period 1 class. Maths.. yay! I seriously don't understand how I am in the same maths class as her, she is so good at it. Her lowest score is 92% this year and mine is well 40%, I am definitely embarrassed. We are in the middle of class and she nudges me.
Claire: Jane! Look! Jake isn't here today, do you know why?
I tell her that he is trying out for the football team and it begins this morning.
She responds with a nod.
A few moments later, Alex starts walking towards us with a piece of paper in his hand. I start to freak out cause never in my 3 years of high school have I ever spoken to him or made any contact with him and I liked it that way. Of course like most boys he comes towards us for Claire and not for me. He hands Claire the piece of paper and I stare at her. As soon as she realises what she is holding I can tell she is mentally freaking out, let me take a guess, it was that song she found in his book yesterday. Turns out he wrote the song for her, typical boy I feel sorry for him, we all knew she was going to reject him. She smiles and looks at me.
Alex: Claire, if you haven't figured out (chuckles in a not so arrogant way) I like you. Do you want to hang out after school?
Claire has a mini heart attack, which is unusual of her and tells him that she'd love to but she made plans with me already.
I tell her its fine, we see each other enough already, I don't want to strip her any further from her social life.
Claire: Are you sure Jane? I don't know I feel bad.
Alex: Well if you really want to hang out with Jane then you can bring her along, and I'll bring Jake.
Claire: Alright sure I'll meet you after school at the gates.
Then he returns to his seat and they spend the rest of the lesson sneaking glances at each other.
"Cool" I say... WAIT WHAT?! Did she just say yes to him? What is going on?
"Claire" I say "Jake is coming, are you alright with that?"
Claire: I guess... I mean I can't let him hold me back. Plus I think I might like Alex, ever since I read the song I just felt something. I can't believe it was about me.
Well I sure can but I am not going to tell her that.
It is the end of the day and Claire and I are walking towards the gates to meet up with Jake and Alex. I think to myself, another boy who likes Claire, and once again no one for me.
So we all ended up deciding that we should go to the park and that's exactly what we ended up doing. We all walked there together and bought ice cream and everything was so picturesque. I wasn't having a good time, but I knew Claire was and I didn't want to take that away from her. Her and Alex were getting along really well despite the fact that Jake was there. Jake and I didn't do much except stare at our phones pretending we had something better to do. We didn't even talk to each other, you could literally remove us from the situation and no one would notice.
It started to get close to Claire's curfew and so we all had to go home cause the last thing we wanted was for her to get in trouble. We said our goodbyes and split up.
