The stress of it was really- aggravating. Ray was quite the lone wolf in the city. She had no friends, barely any family and always worked. It was not that she wanted to work all the time, it was the fact her job demanded she worked around the clock. Everyday it was the same. She would get up within her closet apartment and get ready for work. Leave to take the stupid crowded bus and arrive at the most hated but used corporation: Joja. She despised it with everything she had. Everyday when she looked into the mirror, she could she her short blonde hair mangled no matter how many times she washed or bushed it. Her blue eyes dull and her smile faded. Everyday she would ask herself what she was doing there. Deep down she wanted to leave the city once and for all.So one day, while sitting in her cubicle, Ray suddenly remembered the letter her grandpa gave to her many years ago. She looked around the filthy office, to see if anyone was watching her, and opened the drawer of her desk to find the yellowed letter with a purple seal on it. She quickly opened the letter and smiled at what it said. The letter spoke of a little town in Stardew Valley named Pelican Town. There, her grandpa had left her his farm. What really spoke to her within that letter was even her grandpa had felt the stress of the big city and wanted freedom from it all. With smile still painted on her face, she stood up from her crappy small desk and walked to the Joja's boss office and quit proudly. Sure there was a lot a yelling from her now old boss, but she didn't care she was just happy to finally get away.
When Ray arrived at her closet apartment, she was leaping with joy. She quickly packed her bags with everything she had, which was very little, and prepared herself to her brand new life. She quickly ran to the bus station, bought herself a ticket, and waited for the bus that would take her to her very new home. Before she came to the bus station, she called the mayor of the town, letting him know that she was coming to live in the town and with an enthusiastic voice he said she was more than welcome to come live there. As she was waiting, Ray swore her skin would be unable to hold the excitement she felt within herself and when the bus finally arrived, she squealed. Sure, people were looking at her strangely but she didn't give them the slightest glance to them because she was already jumping into the bus and finding a seat.
The bus ride was to Stardew Valley was a bit long to the point of slight exhaustion, but that was the cause of just too much excitement, but it was also short enough where her happiness did not fade, not one bit. So, when the bus arrived at the small rustic stop, Ray got off the bus to see a woman older than her with red hair.
"Hello there!" the woman exclaimed. "You must be Ray."
Ray nodded. "Yup, that's me," she spoke awkwardly. "May I ask who you are?"
"Oh!" the woman exclaimed. "My name's Robin, I'm the carpenter of this town. The mayor sent me to get you!" Robin then held a hand out which Ray shook.
"Okay! Well thank you!" Ray smiled. This woman seemed like a genuinely good person and was truly happy to see Ray. 'Well this is a first in a very long time,' she thought.
Robin gave a smile and gestured for Ray to follow her. "Come on, I'll show you to your new home now."
When the two arrived at the farm, Ray was in utter surprise at what she saw. The farm was huge, no more than huge, it was ginormous! It was fantastic but also a total overgrown mess.
Robin noticed Ray's reaction and laughed full heartedly. "I know the place is a mess, but with some hard work, you can make it fantastic." she smiled at Ray.
Ray gave a large worried smile. "Oh, I'll try my best," she then gave a determined look. "You know what, I know I'll do my best! In the honor of my grandpa, I'll make this place flourish."
Robin gave Ray a mile wide smile, "That's the spirit Ray! Now come on, lets take a look at your new home."
The house was only a few feet away but that didn't matter. When they arrived at the door step, an older man came out of the house. "Oh, you must be Ray!"
Ray nodded quickly. "Yup!"
The man smiled and nodded. "Well it's very nice to meet you. I'm Lewis, mayor of Pelican Town." He stuck out his hand which Ray shook politely. Lewis then turned to look at the house.
It was a cute place and was larger than her old apartment. The sight of it made Ray's happy mood skyrocket. She couldn't believe it! Finally, a brand new home and life!
Lewis spoke up and turned to Ray. "The place may be old and small but it's quite nice."
"I can tell. It's so cute and rustic." Ray gave a dreamy smile.
"Sure, it's cute, I guess, but still a little run down. Hey, if you ever wanna upgrade, just let me know!" pronounced Robin cheerfully.
"Rude!" cried the mayor. He then crossed his arms, "Don't worry about her, she just wants you to spend money buy an upgrade for your house."
Robin huffed in reply, in which Ray laughed in return.
"Well," spoke the Lewis, "We should leave Robin, Ray's got a big new day and life ahead of her tomorrow. If you ever need anything come and see me Ray," With that the two had left.
Ray then walked into her new house in wonder, an awe struck look upon her face. She looked around at the wood cottage and sighed with a content smile, but then her face fell into a grimace as she looked around once more. She begin to think, 'Will I be able to make new trust with these people? I'm so awkward, that it's hard to make a friendship with other people. The only way I hold myself together is with a distant politeness.' She then stopped her frantic, downtrodden thoughts with a shake of her head, but they kept coming back.
She gave an angry yelp and decided it was better to just go to sleep. Even as she changed into a tank top and shorts, the thoughts still haunted her. As she fell into bed, she noticed how tired she was and almost instantly fell to sleep, but as she did something spoke in her mind, a memory of the past.
"Good luck finding people you can truly trust, you lonely girl!"
