Cold...dark...alone...blood spilling from my lips. This is my daily suffering. Day in and day out this is my life, but please don't feel sorry for me. My name is David well its actually Darius... Darius Daybreak, I'm seven years old, I stand at four feet nine inches in height, with golden black speckled eyes and coal black hair that covers my face. my sister Luna is four years of age and has always been delicate and frail. Its been my job to protect her since our mother was murdered by wolves... well let me explain they are not wolves . Our tribe consists of both actual wolves and humanoid wolves, wolves who have taken a human for but can revert at will. My father was the first to master this skill and our mother was a human that was forced to marry him and have his children. The elders wished to see the potential of these hybrids but what they got was far stronger than ever expected , and it was agreed the children's power would be locked away in collar. Never to be taken off under penalty of death, but our mother was not so lucky. that night two years ago my sister and I watched our mother ripped apart by wolves...
That was day life became a personal hell designed for both Luna and myself.... but that was in the past .When we arrived home that night after visiting our mothers grave for the anniversary of her death our father was drunk and waiting at the door with a large piece of metal at his side... "Darius where have you been its late?" he said as finished his drink. "M-my name is David....that is what mom called me that is my name..." he looked at me furiously and Luna coward behind me. Taking that last drops of his drink he began to talk "you know the elders have decided the project you and your sister were apart of has been disbanded" he picked up the metal and swings it crushing my ribs " and that you are no longer under there protection.... you damned half breeds. your going to suffer" Luna screamed as she looked at me as i coward on the ground, he took a step toward her and she backed away screaming. i managed to stand in his way but he hit me again this time nearly smashing my skull. I yelled " Dad please don't hurt Luna do whatever you want to me i don't care just don't hurt her" he turned to me and smiled.."fine sounds good to me," he stood on my chest and said "Just know what you have just opened yourself up to, any full-blood that sees it fit to punish either of you will only punish you. That means any type of punishment." he pressed down until i blacked out.
I awoke to Luna's' little body hovering over me with tears falling from her solid gold eyes staining her pale skin of her cheeks. Trying to comfort her i hugged her but the pain was intense. I felt weak and sleep would soon consume me and I couldn't trust that Valen would keep his word even if he was my father. Taking her little hand I led Luna down to the river hopping it would be i safe place to rest. We sat under a tree and my eyes closed for a moment before i heard Luna yell. I only opened my eyes long enough to receive a swift kick in my chest. Coughing out a large amount of blood I heard Luna shout "Shadow leave him alone, please Sora make him stop!" Sora and Luna have been friends since she was and the two of us were fairly close as well but Shadow hated me with a passion. "Shadow leave him alone cant you see he is already hurt" said Sora in his typical relaxed tone of voice. He and shadow were 10 years old Shadow with his steely blue hair and ice blue eyes he was very handsome, and Sora who always had a certain regal appearance with red hair and black eyes. Lying on the cold grassy ground being shielded by Luna Shadow looked down at me and said "who got to you first you spoiled half-breed?" I was to weak to answer so Luna did for me " Valen did it...he hurt him all night." He looked a little put back by the statement. "so why didn't he beat you Luna?" asked Sora, "Big brother is taking my beatings so I won't get hurt" she began so sob uncontrollably and Sora picked her up trying to console her. "David are you OK?" Shadow asked me almost sounding genuinely concerned. I only shook my head still in to much pain to talk, he picked me up and started walking gesturing for Sora to follow with Luna. I felt so calm in his arms that i drifted to sleep. After a short time i awoke with a feeling of panic looking at a small shack i had no idea where i was and it seemed like a horrible idea to allow him to take me any further. "Shadow where are we " i began to tremble "Oh god please don't hurt please i can't take anymore" he looked down at me and his eyes were so gentle, he whispers "shhh everything is ok, your gonna be safe here you will be able to rest." We entered the room, it was so warm. the walls were a dingy grey but there where 3 hay bale beds and a wooden chair covered in a dark leather Luna and I fell asleep and we really felt safe. Shadow had tormented me because he was able to, but when he found out my own flesh and blood was finally capable of nearly beating me to death he went from my tormentor to my savior.
Things simply followed the same pattern day in and day out, before I knew it days had turned into months and months into years. little Luna was 14 years old now and me just days away from turning 18. My body bearing the scars from years of abuse some more visible than others but all singing the same story, but through it all Sora and Shadow did their best to take care of Luna and myself. Shadow trying his hardest too patch me up all while trying to keep this secret as they could have been punished for showing us any kindness, seeing me that way brought out his gentle side he was tender and caring it slowly became the one of very few pleasures in my life just letting him hold me. Though excruciating at least this routine was consistent...predictable and each day ended with the three of them made it bearable.
I had noticed the days leading to my birthday the sperm donor i was forced to call father was becoming more and more aggressive in his beatings, getting angrier more like an animal than i had though possible. Even trying to intimidate Luna when I wasn't watching. The day before my birthday it began to culminate and the pieces began to fit together. "David, David wake up...dad is awake he's looking for you again." I could see the tears on her face even the dimly lit room she was clearly shaking and afraid. Looking over at her I sigh shaking my head and wiping her eyes with my thumbs. "I'll be okay Luna, go hide where I told you to...when its over I will come for you." she agrees shakily running off to hide in the wall as I hear the loud thud of heavy boots on our old wood floor leading to my door. Without a word the door flew open slamming with a hard crack against the wall. "Good you are already awake, you an your pitiful sister were home late last night. why!?" shaking slightly as his tone became sharp and demanding. "We were stopped by one of the elders who beat me with his cane until I passed out. When I came to the sun had already set." He chuckled at hearing my suffering before setting his drink on my dresser and reaches just outside the door his hand returning with a heavy chunk of scrap metal. Backing away quickly almost frantically "please don't dad please....what did i do to you....please" running out of places to run I back into the wall knocking things from the shelf. Ignoring my please and sobs he swung his fist full force into my stomach knocking the wind out of me dropping to the floor sobbing harder trying to catch my breath before looking up in time seeing his foot coming to kick me in the side with enough force to slam me into the wall. Laying limp on the ground spitting up blood he brings the scrap metal sending it with all his strength into my right leg completely shattering my knee. Screaming in pain i gasped almost vomiting from the pain my body couldn't control the whimpers and grunts that escaped my lips. Shaking huddled in a ball on the floor, Valen looked down at me before looking away "Stand up! now Darius!" when i didn't respond he yelled again glaring at me his eyes bleeding red. "Darius! Now or I go find Luna and she can join you as a bloody stain on the floor!" I tried my best to stand forcing my weight onto the shattered limb my vision blurring as I slowly wain between conscious and unconscious." staring at with a smirk on his lips he laughs. "good boy now look me in the eye, you've gotta get tougher now don't you?" smiling again he swings the metal at my side cracking two ribs before piercing the skin. dropping to the floor shaking uncontrollably at this point unable to stand i drop limp on the floor as he looms over me. "Worthless...simply worthless, can't even stand a simple punishment. How can I have helped create such a pitiful excuse for a demon...it is sickening"kicking my side again to flip me over "if you survive this night son....you will wish you hadn't. I won't allow you or the girl to continue to tarnish my lineage." dropping the bar he picks up his drink slowly walking out and closing the door behind. His heavy foot fall trailing away until it fades to nothing.
