"Adam Lambert, my name is Andy; and I'm your brother."

Ya, you heard that right. I should probably start from the beginning so that you understand. Lets go back about a week or so; May 2012. Everything was normal, or so I thought. Lets set this scene at my mom's house. About two in the afternoon. It's hot out and Lelia and I are outside sipping lemonade.

"How long is Sauli staying in Finland?" Mom asked me.

"Two weeks." I closed my eyes and soaked up the late afternoon sun.

A bird chirped and a dog barked off in the distance.

"Outside on a day like this! Is he at least wearing sunscreen?" Dad asked, coming through the gate that separated the backyard from the front.

"Dad, I'm 30 years old. Don't worry about me." I whined.

"I know, I know. But us gingers have to look out for each other." Dad joked, pulling me into a hug; Mom just glared at him.

Mom stood awkwardly, watching us hug. Dad let go of me and smiled sheepishly at Mom. Ever since the divorce, their encounters are short and coarse.

"What are you doing here, Eber?" Mom asked.

"The papers." Mom's eyes grew wide. "Fine, let's get this over with." Mom spit at Dad.

As they walked inside, I began to follow.

"Adam, why don't you stay outside. It's just boring paperwork." Mom said, smiling.

"Okay, I get it." I put my hands up in defense. Turning on my heels, I sat down on the lawn chair.

I hate this. They're always doing paperwork and keeping it secret. For God's sake I'm 30, shouldn't I at least get to know what it's about? Why are they so secretive about it? I got up and tip toed to the screen door. I sat down and listened, They made me feel like I was 10...

"I told you not to come today!" Mom hissed.

"Why are you so secretive to Adam!" Dad exclaimed. At least he gets it. "He's going to find out sooner or later." That got my attention.

"He's not ready!" I could practically hear Mom crossing her arms, pouting.

"He's thirty goddamn years old!" Dad's voice was getting louder.

"Just give me the papers." Mom's voice was impatient. The sound of a pen scribbling on papers echoed through the quiet kitchen. "Now go."

As I heard them coming over, I ducked around the house. When they were outside, I casually walked back around.

"Had to get something from my car." I lied.

"I've got to go." Dad hugged me. "See you later."

After Dad hugged me, I gave him the look 'hug Mom'. He ignored it. I knew that I wasn't going to get them to hug, but it was worth a try.

After Dad had left, Mom started making dinner. I sat outside and watched the sunset. I let my skin soak up the afternoon sun.

"Adam?" Mom stuck her head outside. "I've got to go to the store. I'll be back in about half an hour."

I waited until I heard her car speed down the road. I snuck inside. There were no papers on the table. I searched high and low for the paperwork that 'I wasn't ready for'. I wanted to know what they're keeping secret and why.

I finally found a folder upstairs in the office marked 'Lambert, Andy'. Who is Andy Lambert? My family isn't that big and I've never heard of an Andy Lambert.

I opened the folder. The top paper had today's date on it. It was a bank receipt. I flipped through the papers in the folder. The folder was filled with car payments, and bills. Mom and Dad were paying for this Andy Lambert.

Who was he? Why were my parents paying all of his bills? Why weren't they telling me? I could easily help them...

The last paper was the one that really shook me. A birth certificate. January 29, 1982 at 10:37pm.

I heard the front door open. I quickly shoved the papers back in their place, except for the birth certificate. I put that one in my bag. I rushed downstairs.

"That was quick!" I said just a little too loudly.

"I just had to buy wine!" Mom said, confused.

We ate dinner quietly. I had to ask who Andy was. But how?

"Mom?" I asked her after dinner.

"Hmm?" She asked, barely looking up from the dishes that she was cleaning.

"Um, never mind." I quickly changed the subject.

We washed the dishes quietly. Mom handed me the dish, I dried it and set it away. My thoughts were killing me. I had to know who he was!

"Who's Andy Lambert?" I blurted out.

Leila dropped the dish in the sink. It didn't break but the loud clang made me jump. Her face went ashen. Her body tensed up.

"I've never heard that name in my life." She shouted, not looking at me.

"Why are you paying his bills?" I asked, determined to find out.

"I have no idea what you're talking about." Her voice was shrill.

"Why do we share a birthday?" I dug deeper. She didn't answer me. "Mom?"

"I told you I don't know!" She snapped. I jumped in terror.

Taking her signal to drop the subject, I grabbed my bag.

"I'm sorry, I've got to go." I kissed the back of her head and headed for the front door.

Just before I left, I turned around. Mom was looking out the window with a blank expression, her face still white as a ghost.

I got in my car and drove home. What upset her so much? I had to find out who this Andy was...
