I woke up about 5 times in the night. I couldn’t sleep knowing that Devonte was fighting for his life in Hospital. I was in Devon Jr’s room watching him sleep peacefully when the phone rang

“Hello?”

“Good Morning is this Miss. Deon Dewer?” the lady asked

“…Yes.”

“Well, we have some news about your partner Mr. Devonte Brooks” she said sounding happy. My heart was pounding thinking about all of the things she could say. “Hello, Miss? Are you still there?”

My voice went croaky “Erm… yes I’m still here”

“Your partners’ condition is quite serious to be talked over the phone. Would it be alright if you could come in by 1:30?” She asked. Devon Jr didn’t want to go to playgroup today. We were going to go to the park but I guess it could wait.

“Sure. Erm is his condition suitable for a two year old?”

“Yes.” She replied

“Ok thanks. Bye”

“Bye, Have a nice day” she locked off

It was about 9:00 AM and D just woke up.

“Auntie I’m hungry. Can I have Jellof rice and chicken?” he said looking up at me with his big hazel eyes.

I laughed, “D! It’s too early to have Jellof rice silly! How about you have coco pops first then when we come back from the hospital you can have some”

His cute little face of happiness turned into confusion

“Why are we going to the hospital?” he asked scratching his head

“We are going to visit Uncle” I said

“Uncle Dave?”

“No” I replied

“Uncle Luke?”

“No”

“Uncle Beau?”

I laughed “D, do you even have an Uncle Beau?”

“I dunnoe?” he replied shrugging his shoulders smiling.

“We’re gonna visit Uncle Devonte.” I said swinging him to the bathroom

“Yay!! Weeeee!” he said giggling

He brushed his teeth and we went to the bedroom. This kid was a SWAGGER DON! He didn’t let choose his clothes for him at all. I went to the kitchen to get his breakfast ready. He came holding the clothes he wanted me to iron.

“Auntie!! This one’s!” He tried to put the clothes on the ironing board. I watch with a smile on my face as he tried to throw the clothes on it but he failed. He was very small for a 2 year old. His face went from happiness to confusion to stress “Its...Not...Going...UP” He stopped and walked way with a blank face.
