A Broken Soul
When we first met you told me you were broken beyond repair
You were afraid to open your heart
You were afraid to feel again
You were afraid to love again
But on that star spangled night when I held you close was a night I'll never forget.
I brushed your soft silky hair as you dug your teared filled face into my chest
But when you looked up at me with those teared filled eyes I finally saw how broken you were inside.
But after that night I held you close every single night after that and I let you cry into my chest like the nights before
You cried and cried till you could cry no more
But over time you cried less and less and soon you did not cry at all
One night I asked you why do you continue to have me hold you when you cry no more.
And that night, on that star spangled night
You looked up into my eyes once more and instead of seeing that broken soul inside
I saw a soul that knew love once more.
And as you stared into my eyes you whispered to me one thing
One thing I will never forget so long as I live
And that thing
That one thing was
