A Rumor Can't Hurt

When one person says to your friend
"A rumor can't hurt anybody"
And this "friend"
Is so ignorant
Is so uncaring
That they say "fine"
And so the rumor is starting to spread

You can hear whispers
You can see some looking at you
Like you just came from another place
Another planet
And you shrink in your baggy clothes
Hating the looks in their eyes
Scared from their thoughts
And anxious for their actions

You wish you could be in this place
The place they think you just came from
Maybe people there won't judge you
Maybe they're nicer , more kind
Maybe you're important there
My be you're someone
But you're still here

And all of a sudden, people are talking
Behind your back
Right next to you
And their conversation subject
Is you
"Did you hear that...?"
"I can't believe it! They're such... "

And most of it isn't true
And you know it
You want to tell them it's wrong
That you're just as normal as they are
But they will just laugh at you
And you just want to cry

As time goes by
No one sits next to you in lunch
No one talks to you on their on will
No one cares about your well being
And the last one
Not even you
No one will know
That you're just lying there
In the dark room
Crying
Because of that one rumor
