I couldn't believe it. I could hear my mother gasp as each word that was typed on the piece of paper came out of my mouth. I was being drafted off to the war. Aubrey Rosefall, my name, plastered on the paper like a title for something I wasn't prepared for. Never in my life have I ever shot a gun. I look up, my mother in tears as my brother reads his as well. I went upstairs, ready to start packing. I immediately get a call from my best friend, Lexa as I pick up the phone.

"Is it true?! Are you seriously going to war?!" I nearly hear her bellow out, my ear drums nearly bursting from her shrill voice as I clear my throat. I didn't want to scare her but she obviously knew the truth already.

"I'm sorry but yes... I just hope I can say goodbye to you before I go." I reply, packing some hiking boots I had. I run my shaky hand through my hair, scared of what will come with this. I feel like the world disappears around me, Lexa's voice on the other end of the phone becoming slurred. I take a deep breath, forcing a smile that she obviously couldn't see.

"Hey Lex... I know you're worried and all but I'm going to hang up and continue packing... Ok?" I murmur, looking at my partially packed bag full of some athletic wear and toiletries.

"Y-Yeah! Sorry... I promise I'll call you back in two hours though!" She nearly squeals as I end our call, laying down on my bed.

"Holy shit... How the fuck am I going to get out of this alive..." I mutter, thinking of the possible outcomes I'll obviously screw this up. I zip up my bag, looking at the address where the soldiers drafted need to go. I walk down the stairs, my mom giving me a tight hug as me dad is breaking down in tears behind her.

"I promise... I'll be back in one piece! I promise you both that..." I reply with a bold remark, giving my dad a big hug as I walk outside, realizing my brother's car is already gone. I roll my eyes, tossing that bag into the back of my Subaru. I close the door as I slide into the driver's side, taking a deep breath before starting the car. I drive off down the road, knowing I'll have to give it my all if I'm going to keep that promise through the end.

HEY! Sorry it's a short chapter! I've been thinking of making a book like this for a while!!! Anyway it's finally out and I promise I'll try to be as active as possible! I'm in a musical atm and yeah... SO BREAK A LEG TO ME!!
