"so who's the girl?"

caleb grunts after jared
knocks a wrench off the table
for the tenth time in the hour.

"there's no girl."

jared mumbles, stooping to
pick up the tool off
the floor.

"you've been lousy
all day and
that can only
mean two things.
either you're missing
a girl, or
you lost your
stupid cat."

jared rolls his eyes.

"neither."

throwing his hands in
the air exasperatedly, caleb
shakes his head.

"fine. be that way.
be in denial. or...
you could stop being
a sissy and make
the first move!
that's all i have to say."

the machines in the shop
hum and beep as jared
ponders his wise friends
advice. caleb turns back to
the truck they're repairing
and jared sighs.

"you're right."

even with his back turned
jared can feel his grin.

"when it comes to you?
always."
