"Hey, Leon, do you think she is still alive somewhere out there?". As he said it I already knew who he was referring to. It was his dream girl, the one that he had just finally gotten the nerve to ask on a date after years of waiting for just the right time. Then only a few hours later, news of an outbreak sent the whole world into panic. Then in a rush her family packed and left the US and flew to another country to wait and hope the outbreak was stopped while it was still in America. However, our families were not rich enough to afford this luxury, and we were left behind. The outbreak continued to spread and members of our families slowly got infected, and had to be left behind. Now in our small group there are only three of us, Me (Leon), and my two friends, that are as far as i know, my closest and only friends left."
"You know Scott," Then I quickly thought of something to say to keep his hopes up in these difficult times,"I'm sure she is. I mean seeing as how her family is extremely rich, she probably made it to the safe house as soon as it was opened.". I then looked over at him to see his response. He didn't seem to have much of a response, except looking straight the roof of the makeshift wooden house we were spending the night in to avoid the rain. I then saw a tear roll down the side of his face and was extremely surprised. He was in my opinion the strongest of the three of us, emotionally and physically. I guess the thought of him probably losing the one that was currently dearest to him just overcame him.
He then quietly said to himself "I truly hope so.", then rolled over and quickly fell asleep. After that our friend Mike came through the opening to our makeshift house and said, "Well since it seems like you're not going to sleep any time soon, you take watch because I'm fucking tired." Then he threw me his 12 Gauge then lay ed down and went to sleep. Then i figured that since he was already about to fall asleep i might as well not argue and walked outside.
As i walked outside I felt a cool breeze hit me, but the pleasure was shortly interrupted as i smelled something fowl. It was the smell of rotten flesh, which could either mean an infected is near by. It could also mean that a person had killed an infected and covered themselves with the scent, as if they were like a person out of The Walking Dead, but that was not very likely considering the fact that many people that have tried that have attracted infected to them during the night while they were sleeping.
I then pulled the gun up to my shoulder, said a quick prayer in my head, and then proceeded to survey the area. After looking around for about an hour, i still hadn't found any traces of an infected besides the smell. This made me both happy and scared at the same time. Happy because there were no infected around, and scared because it could be a sign of a large hoard coming at us, and if there is anything that zombie games, and movies have taught me, it's not to mess with the hoard!
