Currently Mr. Lancer's class was in a long chain, hand in hand, as they floated through the ghost zone. Getting everyone used to the idea of flight in the Ghost Zone has been a more laborious task for Danny than it should have.
Danny was the only one not linked to the chain of people, instead floating a few feet ahead. He wanted to separate himself for awhile, trying to sort out everything that had happened. Only when he felt a soft hand on his shoulder did Danny stop, the whole group halting in response.
"Danny," it was Sam who spoke in a soft tone. "Are you alright? You haven't said anything since we left the prison. Everyone's worried."
"I'm fine, Sam." At her raised eyebrow he added, "Really!" Danny was fine. Physically at least.
"I just don't want to deal with everyone right now. Especially my parents!"
"Danny, just give them a chance. What harm can a few questions do?" Danny wanted to argue with Sam, but she was right. Just clearing the air with his classmates would ease a lot of the tension.
"I, I guess you're right." A smug look crossed Sam's face, and Danny knew she was happy, which made him happy.
Together they flew back towards the group. All eyes fixed on Danny.
"Hey, dude! You feeling any better?" Danny smiled at Tucker. He appreciated his normal laid-back attitude in the otherwise unusual situation.
"Yeah. Thanks Tuck." Danny raised a hand in greeting. "Uh, hey, guys. I'm ready now if you have any questions about, ya know-."
Danny saw the hands of his classmates fly up. He started flying backwards to urge the group along. Hopefully they could make it back to the bus before anyone need to sleep or really eat.
His classmates asked the exact questions Danny knew they were going to ask. How'd you become a ghost? Can I be one too? Let's go out! That was from Paulina. There were also apologies from Dash and the other jocks that had bullied Danny over the years.
Danny glanced back and notice the edge of the island they had hiked. The Ghost Bus, however, was parked on the opposite side of the island. This meant that once they landed they had to walk either all around the island, or hike it. Either way would be an alarming amount of time.
Mr. and Mrs. Fenton were at the back of the group, talking in low voices with Mr. Lancer. How had they not known! This was what concerned the three adults immensely. They were supposed to be watching over Danny and making sure he was okay. Yet, they had been blinded to the suffering he had been going through.
The Fenton's were aware that Danny was avoiding them. For the moment that was alright. They were still trying to come to terms with the fact that their son was the Ghost Boy on the news. The same Ghost Boy they had been hunting whenever the opportunity presented itself.
One by one the group landed on the solid ground. Everyone's knees buckled, unused to supporting their weight, but no one fell. Danny, the unofficial-official leader, floated up, facing the group.
"Okay, so there's only two ways we can walk back to the bus from here: we can walk around the perimeter of the island, which will take longer, or we can go straight through it and hike the mountain again." There was a collective groan from everyone as they heard the last option.
"How much longer is it to go around the island." Danny fixed his blue eyes to Dash, not noticing the older boy's wince.
"A couple hours longer, give-or-take." The Ghost Child shrugged. Without speaking the class came to a unanimous decision.

It was dark by the time to group made it to the bus. Well it would have been dark if they were in the Human Realm. And they would have made it to the bus if the bus had been where they left it.
Paulina and Star shrieked. "No! I need a shower!"
Sam shook her head. "Is that all they care about?" Tucker said that, no they also care about the Ghost Boy, a fact the trio was all too aware of.
