Prompt: Write a poem about an image. Your imge is: A pair of baby shoes.
Baby shoes
Sitting on a shelf
Cold, gathering dust
Waiting to be bought by an excited mother, grandmother, or sister.
Two moths later,
Baby shoes sitting on display
In a small white room
Nothing in it yet
But that pair of tiny shoes.
Another month from then,
Baby shoes sitting in the same place,
But this time in a pink room
With a white crib
And a rocking chair with cushions
Still waiting to be worn.
Four months from the refurnishing,
Baby shoes still sitting there.
Still waiting.
Another four months from then,
Baby shoes suffed into a bag
Hurried into a building
And presented to a tired person.
Ready to be worn.
Another week from then,
Baby shoes on baby feet
Finally being worn
Even if not walked in
Even if just lying in a crib
Or carrier
Or arms
Still being worn.
Another ten months from then,
Baby shoes on baby feet
Being walked in
For the first time.
Loving it
Just like the baby wearing them
And the big people cheering.
Two years later,
Baby shoes on display again
In a differently furnished room
But still loved.
Sixteen years later,
Baby shoes being thrown in a box
Given away.
Feeling loved and hated at the same time.
But being used again.
And experiencing it all over again.
