At the age of 2 my father passed away. My mother said it was cancer that took him from us. I was young, I just thought 'cancer' was a name of my father's friend and that they went somewhere, but he never came back. Afterwards I thought he just abandoned us. It wasn't that at all. He did nothing wrong. It was just sickness, nothing prevented it from taking him.

The situation, in my opinion, had a stronger effect on my mother. She'd given up so much for me. Since he died she found a more high paying job, but it required a lot of work and attention. Anytime she would come home, her feet looked swollen, strands of hair waved hello, and there were bags under her eyes that somehow managed to glow when she saw me. I'm not sure what it was. Maybe I reminded her of my father and it made all the pain she went through disappear. All I know is that everything she did was for me.

Her trembling hands made me fine dishes that made me wonder where did she get this from? She'd watch me eat then put me in bed. Maybe told me a funny story or just shared how much she loved me.

But never once, after tucking me in bed, did she go to hers. She had another job at night. The front door would signal me to sleep as it reminded me that I have to get some sleep for school tomorrow, so that then I can help my mother in return for all she has done for me.

The journey for us two was difficult probably not as much others, but my mother cried in front of me so it deserves that title one hundred percent.

I share to you the steps I took all the way to Winner.
