sweat dripped down profusely, his cap soaking up half of the wetness present on his head. he was panting hard as he entered the locker room. drenched towels were harshly thrown at one side and there was a thick atmosphere between the teammates.
it was obvious they had lost during the friendly match they had with another school. their school had never won one game. be it nationals or friendlys, they had never won. their school had the worst reputation when it came to baseball. but even so, they were confident that they could win this friendly since they had better players and they practiced really hard yet they were defeated once again.
a certain male sighed as sat on the bench dejectedly. he had just finished listening to a speech by the captain and the coach. however, what was said was quite expected. talking about expecting to lose, close game, blah blah. it wasn't even a close game. they had lost 28-9. that's a difference of 19 points. that isn't close at all.
a hand patted on his shoulder and he looked up to see his captain. "hey, don't fret about it. you did well today."
jinyoung could only sigh and nod. he knew he performed the worst out of all the members. he blamed himself for not having a home run when he could and he blamed himself for not being able to react fast enough.
he dejectedly opened his locker and as he did, a green coloured plastic covered ice cream fell onto the floor. jinyoung furrowed his eyebrows and picked it up.
an ice cream..?
he noticed a post-it on the other side and it had something written on it.
you did well today, don't worry too much! have an ice cream. i didn't know which brand you liked so i picked this! sourness comes before sweetness, remember that!
jinyoung managed to crack a small smile while reading it. the handwriting was so cute yet a little rushed. he tore off the wrapper and bit the ice cream. the sourness of it made jinyoung squint but he tasted vanilla after and the sweetness overcame the taste of sourness.
"a fan?" one of his teammates, jackson, asked and he shrugged.
"don't know but i doubt we even have fans." he replied nonchantly.
"now that's bullshit, you are one of the most attractive and hot guys in this school and may i remind you how many people have confessed to you this past week." jackson replied and leaned against his locker, arms over each other.
jinyoung didn't reply to that. half of it was because he knew it was true, the other was because he ice cream was too delicious. whoever gave him this had a great taste.
"how many?" another teammate, bambam, asked after hearing the conversation.
"i lost count but i remembered there were even guys!" jackson exclaimed and jinyoung smacked his head.
"shut up."
yugyeom chuckled, "can't believe even guys fall for you."
"let's be honest, how could they not? jinyoung is smart, kind, friendly and really hot. there's no way one wouldn't fall for him." jaebum entered the conversation after his bath.
the rest nodded and agreed. jinyoung could only groan and throw his stick away before entering the shower.
—
after letting the hot, refreshing water hit his body and make him feel clean again, jinyoung exited the bathroom with a new set of clothes on him. his teammates were waiting for him so that they could grab dinner together. needless to say, they were all starving.
