HAYLEY'S POV
Next to her sat Jacob, fumbling with a pen. They were meant to be completing exercise 10B, but Hayley couldn't care less about completing a square.

"You know what I find so bizarre?" Hayley began, intentionally increasing her tone at the end to express her voice as increasingly 'feminine'.

"What?" responded Jake's deep, matured voice.

"We're well into March..."

"Yeah, I can see that." Jake used his pen to point at the board which had the date written above Mr Robinson's theory for the day.

"Why would someone enrol so late into the school year?"

"I dunno, maybe an emergencical relocation?"

"You sound so Englishy when you say that."

"Annabeth does that to us" he laughed.

At the mention of Annabeth, Hayley mentally turned her face sour.

"Why do you even sit with her? You know she'll never date you, right?"

"I dont sit with her because I'm secretly in love with her." At this Jacob laughed, a little too audibly such that Mr Robinson's gaze was diverted onto him.

Jacob muttered a quick sorry in response. "Have you heard of friendship? I sit with her cause she's my friend, she's a laugh too you know, not just a talking book."

"I guess." Hayley knew better than to embarass herself further and secretly hoped this little conversation didn't ruin his impression of her.

"I've always wondered what she's like," lied Hayley, "you know cause we're not close and all."

"Is that why you invited her to your party?"

Hayley internally sighed in relief, this acted as the perfect cover for that awkward conversation where she'd accidentally accused him of loving Annabeth.

"Exactly. I don't know, she seems cool."

"Nice."

And with that the conversation silenced. Realising that Hayley actually hadn't asked what she'd wanted to, she mentally prepared herself to strike conversation again, slightly later.

Twenty minutes later, Hayley turned to Jacob again.

"So back to what I initially asked,"

"The moving thing?"

"Yeah,"

"Yeah, why'd you ask that?"

"We have a new student..."

Jacob turned to the goth looking girl who had introduced herself to the class at Mr Robsinson's request upon her arrival to the school.

"Her?" He used his pen as a pointer again.

"No, not her"

"Then?"

"This guy, Percy Jackson..."

"The 'hot' one?"

"How do you know he's hot?"

"One of the cheerleader's told me,"

"Oh."

"Yeah, why do you care so much?"

"He seems interesting..." At this Hayley looked Jacob directly in the eyes, and just like Teen Vogue had prompted, she smiled with her eyes.

"You do know, he'll never date you right? He has a girlfriend," Jacob coyly smiled, mocking Hayley's remark about Annabeth to him.

"What if they're not close anymore?"

Jacob narrowed his eyes at Hayley.

"I feel sorry for whoever she is, man."

"Me too," smiled Hayley, and with that she got up, collected her belongings into her bag and departed the classroom, with about 10 seconds to spare before the bell for break echoed throughout the school.
