Three weeks later, everything was back to normal. Work was work and Tony was Tony. Julie had managed not to mess up, not yet anyway.
"Ok Anne I need you to give me one big push." She urged her patient. Who responded with a scream as she complied.
A loud wail followed Anne's scream making Julie smile. She handed the pink wailing little being to her nurse Lucy for clean up.
"Great job Anne, little Mathew has good pair of lungs on him. Let's get you cleaned up."
After making sure that both mother and child were in perfect health ,Julie was done for the day so she got ready to knock off.
When she passed the reception area a few nurses including Lucy were there admiring a bouquet of gorgeous white roses.
"Who is the very lucky girl?" Julie asked as she too admired the flowers.
"You. How come I don't know about the man in your life. I mean I am your best friend aren't I. Or did that change when you got your new man."Lucy went on a crazy shouting spree that she almost missed that the roses were hers.
"Mine? Are you sure there is no mix up?" Julie asked looking at the roses trying to find a card or something to show the owner.
"Unless there is another Julie Andrews here. Now start talking. Who is he?"
"I don't know, is there a card?" Her best friend practically threw the card at her.
Thank you .
A.D
She looked up to Lucy completely confused."I really don't know."
Julie had thought maybe Johnny had upped his game sending flowers to her but now seeing the card she knew she was wrong.
"Honestly?"
"Truth, truth and nothing but." Julie swore to her friend.
"Maybe you got a secret admirer. Oh my gosh that's even better, a mysterious hunk admiring you in secret. I bet he is hot, only hot men send gorgeous roses like these." Lucy gushed on.
Julie laughed at Lucy's child like excitement. "You watch too many romcoms sweetie. If you keep this up I'm confiscating your whole mills and boon collection."
"Take your roses and go you bitch. Making us all jealous, go home and don't text me till you believe in love."
Julie continued laughing as she exited the hospital going for the subway. Her roses in her arms, they smelled so divine. She knew as soon as Tony saw them there was going to be a Spanish inquisition worse than Lucy's.
Getting home while it was still light out had been her routine the past weeks. Tony would already be home and they would make dinner together then watch a movie before it was bed time.
Today a black expensive car was parked opposite her house. The windows were tinted and she could not see who was inside.
Fear boiled in her stomach making her walk faster.
"Tony!" She shouted as soon as she got in.
"In the lounge." Her brother shouted back.
She rushed in and found her brother on his favourite chair opposite the television with a joystick in hand and head set on his head.
"Wassup?" Tony asked looking at her like she was crazy.
"I saw a black car outside and I panicked. Has it been there for long? Did they say anything? Did they see you? Did they try come inside?" Questions flew from her one after the other.
"I see you got the flowers." A deep voice spoke behind her making her spin around so fast she almost lost her footing.
Julie had completely forgot about meeting him and his brother. He looked well, every bit the handsome Italian millionaire he was. He had healed well, no bruises showed on his face and he stood with ease, no pain at all. He looked out of place in her small house now, with his grey armani suit and a glass of water in hand.
"Oh it's you." She said relief evident in her voice.
"I'm sorry my car scared you cara. I will use a less conspicuous car next time." Alessio said smiling at her.
She looked more beautiful than the pictures, he thought. She was short barely reaching his chin. He had become somewhat infatuated by her. He could not help but think of her constantly.
"What are you doing?" Julie asked placing on hand on her hip.
"I was waiting for you to get home and got thirsty . I hope it's ok I used your kitchen to get a glass of water."
"I mean what are you doing here Alessio? I told your brother that I didn't want you people here." Julie spoke pointing an accusing finger at him.
"I know but I needed to thank the angel who saved me personally."
"The flowers would have sufficed." She still had the roses in her arms.
"Not enough for me. Please allow me to just thank you. Let me take you out to dinner." Alessio asked approaching her slowly. But Julie took a step back.
"No Alessio. The roses are beautiful enough no need for more. Our worlds cannot cross even for an minute. Please do us a favour and leave my house. And do not come back again."
Seeing the the look on her eyes and the seriousness of her tone, he knew better than to push.
Alessio sighed in defeat and gave her a nod then left. He actually gave up easier than Julie thought."That was very rude Jules. He was pretty cool for an oldie." Tony commented making her jump. She had forgotten he was there in the room with them.
"What did I say about opening the door for strangers Tony." Julie scolded.
Tony just rolled his eyes.
"You said that when I was like five, I'm almost eighteen."
"I'm trying to keep you safe."
"I can handle myself sis. Loosen up a little."
"Just please don't. For me." Julie pleaded not wanting to keep going back and forth with him
"Whatever."
"How about pizza for dinner I'm too drained to cook."
"The usual. I'll order don't want you to put olives on it."
