"Cage I know everyday after school, you've been in here playing music. I know this, because other students and teachers have told me. Now I saw that application to Juilliard, why don't you fill it out and see what happens." Uncle Tom rushed in a hurry, while putting some papers away in his desk. I was dumbstruck by his comment. I mean I had been playing all week, messing around with all of the instruments, but didn't think it was so obvious. I did try to keep it as low as possible. But I just couldn't help the feel that came over me once I got into a rythem.
He looked up from his desk at me waiting on my response. Sad thing is I didn't have one. I knew he was right. Juilliard has always been a dream of mine, but that dream died in a car crash. I didn't play for people anymore and that was that. Also, I couldn't hide the fact that I was hoping to see Gabriel again. We had passed each more than once in the halls and each time I couldn't take my eyes off of him. But it seemed that every time we went to finally speak to one another, some sort of interruption happened. Not that I didn't notice most of it came from Blondie.
So after so many times of this happening, I came to the assumption that they were dating. Which confused me even more. For the obvious reason he had asked me out for this weekend. I had finally made up my mind he was just some kind of player and of course I was the new girl who knew no better. Fresh meat no less. I just couldn't shake the feeling that there something so much more to him and as I laid awake at night wondering why these feeling were stirring inside me every time I saw him. Needless to say he was never far from my mind.
Snapping back to reality," I will think about it Uncle Tom. Honestly I will give it some thought." That was the best response I could give him. Seeming satisfied he smiled and made his way out of the music room. I slowly made towards the piano, while pulling out my sheet music. If I was even thinking about Juilliard, I needed to get a move on some of my own music. I knew deep in a dark corner of my closet there was music, but I still wasn't ready to open that box of memories just yet. I was just happy enough to be playing at least some again.
I sat comfortably down on the stool and ever so gently placed my fingers over the black and white keys. Taking a few deep breaths, I finally began to play some Chopin. My fingers gliding across the keys that were burned into my mind. The soft melody taking me away from the sadness in my heart. It was always one of my moms favorite nocturnes. At the thought of that I picked up the speed of the ending of it and felt the world crashing back down on my shoulders.
Once the last vibration of notes were over, I opened my eyes and saw blurr. Not realizing I had been crying I swiped them away in annoyance.
"Um... Wow! That was really awesome, if I do say so myself. I had been hearing rumors all week that the new girl could put it down with the music. Uh, I didn't think they were telling the truth. No one in this school has any musical talent, well that is if you don't include Mr.Harvey." A girl with short choppy black hair said while sitting in one of the student seats.
Do people around here not believe in privacy? And for Christ sake it's after school hours. Nothing better to do than to stay at school, till you just can't anymore? I glared at her.
She seemed to know what I was thinking. " I'm sorry I didn't mean to be rude. I was just leaving an art club meeting down the way, when I heard someone playing and thought I would check to see if the rumors were true. Which I don't think they hold a candle to your playing. I'm Tiffany, by the way."
