Chase and Kai walk to the gas station on the corner on the last day of summer. It's all a haze, the road is steaming as they carefully cross the street as Chase stops for a minute and pulls his best friend Kai back.

"I don't want to do this." He states plainly.

"You've been so boring and plain since Jason died, you need to do something to wake up your wild side. This is the perfect time and place."

Kai rants as he grabs Chase's wrist and yanks him forward. Chase pulls back again,"This isn't a good idea."Chase complains "Don't you trust me."Kai said confidently. "I mean yeah but—" "OK then let's go!" Kai finally pulls Chase into the gas station.

Kai and Chase scan the aisles for candy. Kai pushed Chase
forward, urging him to pick a snack to steal. Chase hesitantly looked back before grabbing a King Size Hershey's Bar and stuffing it into his pocket. "Hey kid, you gonna pay for that." Chase hears the cashier grumble, but at that moment there was a pound bang, and a pyramid of tissues fell down and spread all over the floor.

"Oh no! I'm so sorry sir." Chase says genuinely "Here let me help." Kai said then he pushed the cashier into the pile of scattered tissue boxes. He grabbed Chase's wrist. "Time to go!" Kai shouted, dragging Chase out of the store and down the street.

As the pair get to Kai's house they talk about when they will meet before school tomorrow and they say their goodbyes.
