"How are you feeling today?"

I look up to see the always smiling male nurse I still don't know the name of. "I'm feeling good. Well, as good as I can feel, I guess."

The nurses smile all the time and it just annoys me so much. They all smile those smiles filled with pity. I know I should be grateful for somebody wanting to take care of me, even though they get paid for it, but still. The nurses here are friendly and nice. I could have ended up having a really mean Polish nurse named Gretha, who feeds me disgusting onion soup and sings me the Polish anthem. I could have it much worse. There are people in Africa, who has never seen a real bed or had McDonald's fries. I should be grateful.

But the whole be grateful thing never lasts very long because I'm blessed with cancer, anyway.
