The fire inside me burns brighter than the fire around me

Corin Alexander always knew Hermione Granger was a Witch.

Now, perhaps always was a slight stretch, but she'd certainly been aware long before their friendship. For all the intelligence that the brunette liked to show, she wasn't all that great at keeping secrets—especially not at eleven years old.

See, Corin was rather observant as a child, and Hermione did stick out in the crowd quite a bit thanks to that bushy hair that she used to be unable to tame back as a child. It took an entire year of just watching Hermione read at the library to figure out that she was magical. Unless of course, books being suspended into the air after being dropped was normal. She may have been unaware that she used magic from time-to-time but Corin definitely was. How she felt about it at the time, she didn't know.

Now, three years later, Corin barely thinks about Hermione's abilities. Sometimes, she even finds herself jealous. Not only did Hermione have the intelligence of a bloody dolphin, but she also had supernatural powers to back her up. Not to mention the good looks.

Reading at the library is a challenge when you're trying to stalk someone, Corin quickly learned. It was after Hermione caught her trying to take a photo of her that she realised the girl existed. Corin played it off terribly, saying she was a photographer-in-the-making. She never did get that photo.

It was totally worth it though.

The Witch had actually invited her to join her as she read, and Corin used her terrible pun-making to her advantage. Hermione is still terrified of the word 'toaster'. Despite the jokes, Granger quickly developed a liking for Corin, and friendship came quickly. Which was good, because now Corin didn't have to stalk a stranger. Now she could stalk her best friend, which made it completely okay.

Completely.

It was only two months after this event that Hermione left for boarding school. Corin had spent probably three months crying every night and then three months and a day crying every morning. She got over it eventually, and when Hermione returned for the holidays she had a new demeanour about her. She seemed almost matured slightly, and Corin had nothing to complain about.

She did complain about Hermione's constant talk of her newfound hate of chess, though. She'd mumbled something about trolls, too. Not to mention the fact that the girl couldn't look at a snake without having the psychopathic urge to drive a knife through it after the second year. Whatever went on in that boarding school must've been something, but her friend seemed happy, so she was too.

It was probably in Hermione's third year, when she was fourteen, that Corin realised there was something rather unusual about their friendship.

Now, don't get me wrong, the stalking was pretty weird, but Corin suddenly found it very hard to put Hermione in the category of 'friend'. There was something about the girl that Corin found herself being magnetised to, and she couldn't help but feel enjoyment from that fact.

She'd approached a friend of hers about it and was given the title of 'oblivious' before being told that she was in love. Obsessively in love. At first, she'd freaked out about it, unknowing of what Hermione would think if she found out. After some all-nighters of pacing around her room, Corin found herself pondering exactly what it was that she loved about the girl. After coming to the conclusion that Corin was genuinely in love, and not simply infatuated (probably), she relaxed slightly, and promised herself that she would confront Hermione about it it. Somehow.

Third year came and went, and Corin found herself growing restless to see Hermione again. After all, she did have some rather important information to share, and she wanted to see whether she could get a confession of Hermione's seemingly supernatural abilities that summer.

With a good amount of stalking involved, Corin somehow found herself following a Wizard and Witch down to the train station...

and onto Platform nine and three-quarters.
