A Shamens Tale

Shamensoul sat in the medicine cat den, his tail swayed as he slept peacefully. Well, at least, until small kits and young apprentices ran into his den and jumped onto him. He woke up with a jolt, a gasp and a lash of his tail as he looked up and around frantically with a small yelp of suprise.

It was dark in his den. So he couldn't tell which of the kits and apprentices had come running into his den in the middle of the night. This was very late, even for apprentices and kits. But he perked and recognized the small snickers and whispering between the 5 small ones that had wondered into his den.

"Axepaw, lillykit, mothpaw, tarpaw, pantherkit. What are you doing in my den this late at night, you shouldn't be up, you should all be resting." Shamensoul hissed softly at the small ones. He could feel the five coddled up to his fluffy and long furred figure. He sighed aa they started to respond.

"Sorry shamensoul!" Tarpaw giggled and purred as he looked up at the medicine cat. His pitch black fir blended with the darkness if the den, so all shamensoul could see was his bright green eyes glowing in the dark. "None of us could sleep." Tarpaw said and let out another cat like snicker.

The medicine cat sighed once more and looked at the five. When he laid back down with his swaying tail, the apprentices and kits followed his lead and laid beside him. All looked at him. "So you little ones want to hear a story?" Shamensoul asked. Looking at the small figures by him. The figures seemed to perk and look up at him. Glowing eyes of the curious cats looked up at him. Axepaw jumped up and bounced in his spot. "Yeah!" He yelled in excitement loudly.

The loud yell caused tarpaw to hiss and looked at his brother, axepaw. Who shrunk back down by shamensouls furry side. "Sorry..." axepaw chuckled softly, looking away embarrased

Shamensoul sighed and looked at them with the tilt of his head. "So, what story would you guys want to hear?" He asked and looked at them. Lillykit snatched the first request with the hum of her soft and innocent voice. "Oh! Shamensoul could we hear your story?!" Lillykit whisper shouted softly, not able to raise her soft voice any higher then that.

Shamensoul looked at the brown sugar colored tabby cat. He seemed hesitant of that idea that the small kit had requested. "Are...are you sure you little ones want to hear that?" Shamensoul asked and looked at them with hopeful eyes that they would say 'nevermind' or no.

The kits and apprentices seemed to bounce up at the idea that lillykit had requested. "Yeah! Yeah! I've always wanted to know more about you shamensoul! Like how you got so good at your job!" Tarkit said quickly and smiled. His green eyes glowed with curiosity. You could tell the apprentice wanted to hear the story.

Shamensoul sighed, annoyed at the persistence of the apprentice. "Are you all completely sure...?" He asked oce more, just to clarify. He really didnt want to tell them the story, but if they wanted it. He would.

All of them pretended to think. Shamensoul chucked at this action. Then pantherkit perked up and looked at him, nodding. "Yeah!" The small black kit said with a large smile on her muzzle. The kit was very upbeat and happy that he had finally agreed to it.

"Alright. I'll tell you, only if." Shamensoul started and looked at them. They all groaned and sighed, looking up at him. "You guys are quite and respectful while I talk and tell the story. Everyone else is still asleep. And apprentices, you still have to do your job just as hard when your mentors tell you what to do!" Shamensoul said.

The apprentices nodded hastily and leaned in. "If course shamensoul!" Tarpaw, axepaw, and mothpaw said in unison. They wanted to hear the story already. They where all getting impatient.

"Alright then. This is my sotry little ones, now, get ready for a long and bumpy ride."
