"I think we should break up."
"W-What? W-Why?" The look on her boyfriend of five years face probably broke her heart more than his words did. He was looking at her like she was a complete stranger, like he didn't know who she was anymore. "Baby-" She reached out to caress his face, but he took a step back letting her hand meet air instead of his flesh.
"I'm sorry, but I can't do this anymore. We can't do this anymore. You've given me so much of your love that you left none for yourself. I can't continue to let you do this to yourself." Her gaze flickered towards the suitcases on the bed, which only confirmed her worst fear. He was leaving her.
"I- I don't need my love! I have your love! That's enough for me!" She cried out, feeling her heart shatter to a million pieces. "Aaron, please don't leave me." Friends for twenty years and lovers for five, Aaron was the only man she had ever loved and the only person she trusted wholeheartedly. "W-What am I going to do without you?"
"Jade, you'll be fine without me." He smiled, a smile that made her heart ache. "You're so strong, it'll only take you a few days before you're on your feet again." She just stared at him. Clearly he didn't know how much he meant to her. She would never recover from this heartbreak. A tear slid down her cheek, causing his smile to drop. "Jade..." He took a couple steps towards her until he was close enough to wrap his arms around her and pull her into a warm embrace. It seemed like it was his mission to make this harder for her. "This is for the best," He murmured, running a hand through her hair to soothe her.
"There's someone else, isn't there?"
He froze momentarily and looked down at her in question, "What?"
"There's someone else, isn't there?" The brunette said sharply, snapping her head to look up at him. Tears welled in her eyes, wetting her eyelashes but she refused to let them fall.
"What are you talking about?" He released her and took a step back, staring at her in disbelief. "You think I cheated on you?" She flinched at the sound of his harsh tone. He had never raised his voice at anyone, especially not her. Even in their arguments he always spoke in the same soft tone.
"There has to be someone else!" She shouted, this time making hin flinch. "You wouldn't just leave me like this! We were happy, Aaron!" Her voice lowered to a whisper as she lowered her head and clenched her shaking fists. "You were happy..."
"There's no one else, Jade," He spoke coldly. She bit down on her bottom lip to keep the tears that threatened to fall at any moment in her eyes. "This relationship is changing you Jade. You're losing yourself trying to make me happy and that's not healthy. I'm sorry, but this is it." He studied her shaking figure for a moment, feeling his own heart break before he headed to grab his stuff. "Goodbye Jade."
